With the recent restructuring of Sega and their emphasis on mobile and PC some thought that Sonic might be relegated to a future on smartphones and tablets. Thankfully, Takashi Iizuka who is the head of Sonic Team,
said we should still expect to see Sonic titles on home consoles. The next home console Sonic title was rumoured for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and hopefully the Wii U.
Personally, I don’t plan to stop Sonic for home-video game consoles. Don’t worry about them! And enjoy!

We would enjoy them if they weren’t absolutely horrible…
If they at least could make games good consistently, I might actually buy some sonic games…
Yes, keep using the IP that single handedly killed your company. Good idea SEGA.
It’s not the IP. It’s Sega killing their own IP and image because their think tank of actual good ideas have run dry..since Dreamcast died.
Sonic is the only IP that has kept Sega relevant. You have it completely backwards.
No dumbass. You have it backwards thinking Sega is still relevant, especially after that major disaster Sonic “Boom”. They’re still pushing it and by “it” I mean more fucking turds like Runners, their latest cash grab scam.
Sonic didn’t kill Sega in the Console Market, Sega killed Sega. The stupid add ons like the Sega CD/32X killed Sega. Releasing the Saturn and the releasing the Dreamcast a mere 2 Years later to rectify Sega’s mistake with the Saturn killed Sega. Doing this, Sega lost consumer trust, THAT was what killed Sega.
Sonic is the only thing that is keeping Sega from dropping out of the Video Game market entirely…
And what’s gonna stop them from making another terrible game then? Sonic Boom was only the beginning and knowing they were gonna shift to mobile to acquire money from dumbasses on that platform without real effort, they haven’t learn shit and this news is merely keeping their PR BS in check from being hated even more; aka “damage control”
Remember, Sonic Boom was developed by Big Red Button, Sega only published the game because of the Sonic name. I have full faith that Sega can at least make a game on par with Lost World, sure it’s not been hugely well recieved as Colors and Generations, but it wasn’t widely hated like Sonic 06 or Sonic Boom.
Also, on a side note, you seem angry on quite a bit of your comments. Are you ok??? Is there something that’s bugging you that reflects in your comments??? Not complain, just really curious (and concerned…)
Then you’re a fucking idiot. Sega would’ve canceled the game if they knew it was gonna bomb which they did and they still had the stupidity to approve that garbage unlike Nintendo who can see garbage (games) coming from a mile away.
Thank you for actually being the only smart one here on this fucking comment board.
Sega made to many systems in short periods of time, and the ps2 killed the dream cast because of better games, graphics and they ability to have a dvd in the system to watch movies.
Sega kept sonic going as much as they could, but dream cast sonic was the last game that the original sonic team was on before they all divided up and the main member left. Sega has a lot of good games that people fail to mention or realized they helped other companies make like Bayonetta and Mad World.
Sega should make games only, as they hardware wasn’t as good. Only ones that were good were the mega drive and dream cast.
Thank You. I try to be as unbiased and as understanding as can be, because that’s how I am in real life, Understanding and respecting other people’s opinions, no matter how much different it is to my own…
More of a warning to stay away from it…
Once more, Sonic gets tortured to death. X(
*Batman Forever’s Two-Face* Why can’t you just DIE?!
Pleanty of developes make mobile spinoffs. Get used to it because they’re only going to get better.
They’re gonna get better at robbing idiots blind with in-app Microtransaction BS if that’s what you mean.
You know. I want to be happy that I might get another game for Sonic, but after Sonic Boom’s suicide, how can I be happy? How can I be happy again if we wanted a Sonic Adventure 3 and got that junk?
Was Sonic Boom that bad? Was it worst than Secret Rings?
Even worse than 2006 which was the last most terrible sonic game.
Sonic 06 did the same for some, even a Hardcore Sonic fan like ClementJ642 left the Sonic scene after 06 and it was the Unleashed demo that brought him back. There will still be people that will play the Sonic games after Boom with the mindset the it was a spinoff of the Sonic Series…
Sonic Boom was admittedly awful, but that doen’t mean Sonic is awful in general. I’ve had a blast playing all the Sonic games, minus the storybook series and Sonic boom, and of course 06. Sonic Lost world was actually really fun once you got a grip of the controls, and I played the hell out of Colors, Unleashed, and Generations! I hope the next Sonic game tops Lost World at least!
Sonic Unleashed was a step in the right direction but still wasn’t great (At least the humans weren’t hyper-realistic like in Sonic 06)
Sonic Generations I’ll admit, wasn’t as good as Sonic Colours but was still pretty amazing.
Sonic Lost World, it’s hit or miss but it does have some good things about it that makes it part of the good sonic games line… just barely though.
I liked Generations the most, because Sonic Colors felt more like a 2D platformer with 3D elements rather than the other way around, but hey, to each their own.
It’s Sega who is awful at making DECENT Sonic games anymore. Only on portable (NOT MOBILE) consoles is what still kept Sonic interests afloat like Advance and Rush which BTW I must ask, WTF is Sonic Rush 3?
I mean with Blaze and Marine fool. lol DS’s Color merely used the same Sonic Rush engine. I’m still waiting for the 3rd Rush game.
I wonder what people are gonna shit on next, after Sonic dissapears.
There are the fans of Mario that like his 3D adventure games like Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1&2. However, where the divide occurs is that there is still a fanbase for the retro 2D Mario games, but the fact of the matter is that the New Super series of games has been stagnating the series in terms of innovation. A sentiment both sides share as they don’t appeal as much to longtime Nintendo fans as they do casual gamers. While the NSMB games are solid platformers, they don’t set any new standards like the rest of the 2D and 3D Super Mario games have in the past. Super Mario 3D World was highly innovative for the seemless way it merged both playstyles while still feeling like an adventure game, but there are still people like myself that want the Galaxy series to be a Trilogy.
Zelda and Metroid is far easier to define the canvases within them. You have the 2D/Top-Down Zelda fans that prefer the games on the 3DS and other portables now, then you have the fans of 3D Zelda games since Ocarina. The same goes for Metroid. But then, you get the mix of fans that like both, which still outweigh both groups of people (luckily).
Then, you have the Zelda and Metroid fans that liked SS and Other M and the other group that abhorred the changes both games made to their series because of the shift from WW/Prime-like exploration to linear, repetitive gameplay elements because both games focused on the narrative TOO much and became washed up and generic to most fans of both series…hence why Nintendo acknowledged their poor sales and decided to return to a focus on exploration (ALBW for Zelda) and gameplay (Prime-like game for Wii U in development by Retro).
This has been a trend for Nintendo lately: a return to form towards making games for their fans as well as the core gamer. Hoping that Zelda Wii U doesn’t disappoint fans like SS did, especially.
Anyways, that’s enough of that essay. Sonic will always have a place in my heart, and I don’t know why people overreacted with Sonic Boom: it’s a spin-off…who cares? That’s like me hating the entire Zelda series because I find Hyrule Warriors boring and repetitive. It doesn’t make sense.
The last Sonic game we had was Lost World, which was a solid game on its own merits, but it was held back by having half of it’s levels absolutely balls-to-the-walls infuriating and horrendous (Frozen Factory Act 2) and the other half really stood out and felt refreshing to play on. I still go back to the game to play on good levels like the Windy Hill and Desert Zone stages. But I think we just need a 3D Sonic game that focuses on gameplay instead of story…one that feels more like Super Mario 3D World and less Sonic Adventure.
I know that it sounds like a sin, but I think the focus fans put on SA and SA2 for nostalgia is keeping the series back from innovation. Less story…more speedy platforming!
Zelda is never hated and Mario only has very few bad days/games than Sonic’s 10 years of shit. Metroid, only one, ONE BAD GAME that almost ruined the lore is Other M and Nintendo is retarded enough to celebrate that crap more often than Metroid Prime, a much better game that respected the Metroid series and Samus’s character altogether.
People seem to forget about Colors and Generations…
I’ve been a sonic fan since the genesis era and have enjoyed quite a bit of the sonic games in the series, new and old. In my opinion I loved Sonic Colors and Sonic Lost World. Just went back and played it yesterday for the first time in 7 months. I was sad if they weren’t gonna continue with sonic on the home consoles but this is now good news for me. I think that the next sonic game should be a true collaboration with Nintendo and sonic team, so that they can together develop a new sonic game, like they did with smash bros with nintendo and namco bandai.
I don’t want another Wii U-exclusive Sonic game. SEGA needs the money from a successful multiplat release of Sonic now on all main formats: Wii U, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Technically, they need to make a powerful Sonic game that takes advantage of current-gen hardware for its gameplay. They need to focus more on gameplay and less on the narrative as well. Let’s be honest here: there are more Sonic fans that play those games on PC, Nintendo, and Xbox platforms in that order. We can’t have another Sonic ’06…SEGA needs to step up to the plate and deliver on making a Sonic game that plays amazingly well and is innovative like Colors and Generations were (more the former than the latter).
I don’t really believe sonic will do too well on the other consoles that much. I’m a PS4 owner and I know a lot of people who own one too and they could careless about getting a sonic game on PS4, and I have felt that sonic is more at home with Nintendo since Sonic adventure DX. Sega was right when they said found that the sonic was purchased more on nintendo consoles than on the others. That’s why Sonic Colors was on wii and was one of the best sonic games. Wow that sounded weird since I remember agruig back in the day when I was a kid that Sonic won’t every be on a Nintendo console because I always thought sonic was better than mario back in the 90’s.
Fun fact. There were more 3D Sonic games on Wii than on the PS3 (2nd most) and Xbox 360(Least), last generation. Wii had, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic and the Black Knight, Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colours.(=4) PS3 had, Sonic 06, Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Generations.(=3) and Xbox 360 had, Sonic 06, Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Generations.(=3) Note-The Sonic games on PS3 were also available for Xbox 360, but the Wii had 3 exclusive Sonic games and 1 Multi Platform game. Not that it really matters and I think that I just wasted mine and your time with this pointless information, so I apologize…
*After reading my comment after posting it, I realised that I made a mistake. I stated that Xbox 360 had the least 3D Sonic games and PS3 was 2nd most, whereas infact, they both had the same amount of 3D Sonic games, so I would like to rectify that.
The Empire thinks Sonic needs a little rest, or a redbull, tonic, gatorade, something.
Gatorade…hah! Let’s just hope the little speedster doesn’t have another sugar rush n’ crash.
Never really enjoyed Sonic games as much but they do provide a change of pace for me. Sonic Boom I heard was awful, both in design and with many technical issues. I’ll be fully aware for the next console release so their next game better not be full of technical issues. I hate that above anything else.
YES!!! I never wanted Sega to stop making more amazing Sonic games for that matter and tbh about Sonic Boom, it wasn’t a bad game but the gameplay could have been more easier for me to handle. Other then that I’m proud of Sega still moving forward for the Blue Blue Sonic :) And to think I actually they’ll become the Next Capcom.
There’s nothing wrong with the Sonic Franchise btw, they just need to create a gameplay that’s easy, delightful, creative, on going, dramatic, and all of the above. Or in this case why ask what the fan’s want for the upcoming games.
“There’s nothing wrong with Sonic” I’m not sure how to ask this in a way that isn’t rude but are you around 10-15 years old? I mean that’s the age demographic that I normally see defending Sonic games in such manner.
I’m 23 and I think There’s nothing wrong with sonic. I have always loved him since the genesis days and still enjoy some of his newer games to an extent. Sega just needs to make sonic games that are very fun and enjoyable again. Like how fun Sonic the hedgehog 2 is, and then how enjoayble Sonic adventure 2 battle was, and the Sonic Colors. I pers
personally liked sonic lost world. It isn’t the best sonic game but I like it a lot. I finally played it yesterday for the first time again since 6 months ago.
Well, that’s your opinion and you’re very much in the vocal minority. Even myself, being 23-years-old and a huge Sonic fan ever since playing the first Sonic the Hedgehog game and (grudgingly) playing and beating every main Sonic release since then (even 06), can realize when there are huge problems the franchise has, such as the inability of SEGA to create a proper, cohesive Sonic game since, arguably, Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Colors in terms of achieving a balance between story and gameplay.
There’s either waaay too much a focus on story that the gameplay itself is ridden with glitches and hit detection issues (Sonic 06 and Unleashed) or games where the gameplay consists of nothing else than speeding down a straightaway with nothing much to break up that pace and where you end up fighting the controls more than anything else (Generations).
While you’re meant to get better over time, and I can pull off some really crazy speed-runs now on the aforementioned games, your first experience shouldn’t be one where you are fighting controls, the camera, and making mistakes because of poor level design and game design.
For Generations, I also felt it was half great (Modern Sonic), and the rest was terrible by comparison (Classic Sonic). Ironically, Classic felt better than Modern on the 3DS version.
That’s my point. Sonic is not consistent as a game series. It has just as many good things going for it as it does bad things, and that is an opinion most gamers express towards the franchise. On the contrary, Mario games have universally good games to masterpieces.
That is the problem Sonic faces in this industry. Compared to his past rival, Sonic games just aren’t as good as they used to be, and if this trend continues, then regardless of the Blue Blur having a place in the mobile market, he’ll soon be just a part of gaming’s history like Pac-Man is now no longer relevant anywhere but Super Smash.
That being said, I still have hope for the Blue Blur. I think he’ll manage to get out of this hole whether his games are made by SEGA or Nintendo, regardless. I don’t care for which platforms Sonic games release on: all I know is that I want to play it. :)
Damn another Sonic 3D adventure? I like Sonic but give it a rest. EVEN a 3D Mario tittle doesn’t appear that often.
Best sonic games was Sonic the hedgehog 2 and Sonic Adventures 2. I never played colors so I don’t know.
no one ever mentions sonic 2 but it was so much fun and the soundtrack is one of my favorite video game soundtracks of all time!
Great news. Keep making improvements to the Unleashed Daytime stages/Sonic Colors mechanics and the games will be as good as gold…
So does that mean Nintendo will be doing the Sonic??
It does look like Nintendo might have a financial interest considering the Sonic amiibo. Who knows, we might get anither decent 2D platformer. In the right hands it could be the next Shovel Knight.
That’s good to hear. At least I can await what Sonic Team has been working on since Generations (What the “A” Team has been working on since the “B” Team already brought out Lost World).
I don’t think I’ll ever play another (new) Sonic game until Nintendo acquires the rights to make a Sonic game…
Won’t be a news about the update 1.1 of majoras mask? Hehe
Why’s everyone bitching for? The sonic team made Sonic games have been good since unleashed, are people really disowning the franchise just cause of a shitty spin-off tie in made by another company?
Sonic the Hedgehog franchise belongs in Japan…….GOOD Sonic games belongs in Japan. Please don’t “westernized” Sonic games ever again! I don’t want to see good Japanese IPs turn western. Look what happen to Devil May Cry or “DMC” for the ‘Merica dude bros.
sega, maybe you could get big N or, pretty much anybody else (besides big red button) to help you out on the next one, I mean I love my hedgehog but you keep hitting him with the car!
I am glad that Sonic isn’t finished with consoles. Hopefully the next Sonic game is as polished as sonic generation or colors.

I hope it better be good because if SEGA ruin it again I don't know what to say.

Sure Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric is another failure like Sonic 2006, but at least it's a spin-off though. Anyways I hope Sega does another Sonic game that is more Adventure based and includes more playable characters (but I don't mean new Sonic characters though).

I believe that SEGA wont disappoint. They may have had a few, but Sonic will make an epic comeback. The Sonic Team just needs to "slow down", and think trough it, and I guarantee you, they CAN make a good Sonic game again.
