Kids don't know better and need to be taught not to lie. However Parents lying to their kids is much worse, they're supposed to be the people kids can always trust.

^Agreed. Parents should set an example. The children will either learn in time or choose to be liars.

How is lying to your kids sometimes for the best? I mean without the whole Santa Claus and all that stuff there's really nothing that justifies lying to your kids. They will grow up and realize the truth and be angry about it, which will strain their relationship with their parents. Also grandma? Unless the grandmother is Sophia from The Golden Girls or Benny from George Lopez I don't think many people will have to worry about grandma's lying.

@Katara: I think she meant that if the grandmother were to die, how you would break it to your kids since many children don't even understand death themselves.
Both are bad. It's more natural for the kids to do so though. The parents should know better considering a child really looks up to their parents. Parents are the people who are supposed to teach their kids about how to understand the world. You can't accomplish that through lying to your child all the time.

I don't know what they would say. They lie to kids saying their pets went to live on a farm. They can't exactly do than with a grandmother.

Both are bad things. A kid hiding their feelings telling her / his mother they are okay.
A mother lying to her kids saying she doesn't have cancer but she really does.
(They are just examples).

Parents who lie to their children aren't showing good guidance to their kids. I'm in grade 12 and taking Parenting in school right now and children learn EVERYTHING from their parents. They're developing and need to be taught right from wrong.
