I'm refering to comments like 'OMG JB/Miley/dubstep isn't real music!' or 'Seriously go listen to some real music!'

I feel like there is no such thing as this concept of real music. I think every song is real music. Just because a person doesn't like the song or band, doesn't mean it's not real music or just noise. Everyone has different tastes, what's 'just noise' to some is a beautiful song to another. I mean if it has a beat, tempo, and melody odds are it's music.

Music is so subjective. IMO there's no such thing as 'bad' music. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's 'bad' or not 'real'. It just means it's not to your taste. Why waste time demeaning artists/genres that you don't like when you could be enjoying the music that you do?

I think any and all music is real music, even if I think a particular genre or artist is generic and boring. True, there may be artists out there that obviously don't work much to create their music while others put their heart and soul into theirs, but simple music is still music to me.

Indeed, I mean I don't care for singers like Bieber or Minaj, but I'm not gonna say they aren't 'real' musicians.

I do see that there can be such a thing as real music. If the music is something that the artist truly pours their heart into and performs with true emotion/feeling, or with a strong intention to get a certain message or opinion out, or impact people a certain way.

Under those circumstances, I certainly wouldn't see a lot of modern and/or dubstep music to be classified as "real music", myself, because there is no heart or soul being put into the effort, in many of the cases.

^How do you know they didn't put their 'heart and soul' into it? Just because it doesn't speak to you personally? Just because it was created in a different way? How do you quantify the amount of 'heart and soul' they puts into their music? How much 'heart and soul' does it take to make it 'real'? And if it affects a listener's 'heart and soul' or if they just enjoy the sound of it I don't think it makes a difference- it's still music. Maybe not your kind of music, but no less 'real'.

I don't mean to push my beliefs. But I can imagine that it did take effort and time to make dubstep songs and I can imagine that they are passionate about their music. I mean Sxrillex (the most mainstream dubsteper) seems to enjoy his career a lot. And I can imagine Taylor Swift pours her heart out into her songs. Gaga also seems really passionate. Despite the fact that I don't like some of it, I can imagine that these singers put a lot into their performances--except Beiber who shows up late to his own concerts...
Going back to Gaga her songs seem to have messages, like be yourself. Jessie J's Price Tag also carries a message as well as Macklemore's Same Love. I think Macklemore's message is pretty powerful.

Again I don't mean to start anything or press beliefs.

Miley is actually an incredible singer, I don't know why people say she can't sing. *Psh* Yeah, right.

Autotune can create for some amazing and artsy songs just listen to this; link

I agree that Bieber is a shit singer but I wouldn't say his music is fake. It's real music, I just don't like it.

@fanfly. It's my opinion, and bluntly, not too easy to explain. Overall, just leave the matter alone.

There is NO such thing as "real" music. People who make dubstep and such put a lot of time and effort. They put their hearts and souls into it. Same goes for EVERY pop singer. That included Justin Bieber.
