Since the very first episode I have been waiting for the case of the week to revolve around something supernatural and it finally happened. This episode gave us a glimpse into the deepest depths of Lucifer’s soul and proved that underneath the stigma of the Devil is a kind hearted yet troubled being. Lucifer doesn’t set out to harm good people or corrupt their souls but that is what is expected of him by the masses. He wants to help people but most importantly he wants to redeem his name and take back ownership of it. These are things that have been gradually coming out through his sessions with Dr. Linda but this week these sentiments were rehashed and the emotion behind them ramped up. Someone knowingly stole Lucifer’s wings and Lucifer is left to wonder who and why. The loss of something that is a part of him and a part of his identity starts to eat away at him throughout the episode and by the end he’s at his wits end. Lucifer’s emotional connection to this case made it all the more interesting as his urgent need to recover his container grew as the episode went on.
Lucifer’s quest to get his property back led him and Chloe on a fun journey across the town. From harassing an ice cream vendor with a smuggling hobby to a fashion line aspiring biker gang leader they encountered a lot of interesting characters. I like that despite the thief being revealed the show left us hanging as to who hired him to commit the crime. The mastermind behind the heist obviously knew what was in the container and the importance of it. Until now the show hasn’t really had a big bad because despite Amenadiel’s sometimes shady dealings he’s not exactly big bad material and Maze may not like Chloe but she is fiercely loyal to Lucifer. The show could definitely benefit from a big bad gunning for Lucifer and that would certainly help build up the supernatural side of the show to counter the procedural side.
With Maze being in charge of storing Lucifer’s items I am curious to find out how someone found out about his wings in the first place. Maze doesn’t seem the type to let such important information slip so whomever has it out for Lucifer is well connected. This storyline has me very excited for what is to come especially if it means the show finally embracing its supernatural and biblical roots. The procedural side is a part of the DNA of this show but I’d be very happy if the cases of the week start to take on supernatural crimes. We’ve been told that without Lucifer sitting on the throne of Hell the demons and evil souls residing there may not be contained forever. I’m all for them being unleashed on Los Angeles in the name of some more supernatural excitement on this show.
This episode took us further into Chloe and Lucifer’s ever growing and evolving partnership. Lucifer still annoys Chloe but she has developed a fondness for her unconventional partner. It is this fondness that drives her to get Dan to look further into his background. While she wants answers to Lucifer’s history I believe she also was relieved when Dan didn’t come up with anything. She even confessed to Lucifer that she liked having him around which was a big deal for her. These two will always be prone to pick on each other but when push comes to shove they always come through for the other. When Lucifer couldn’t stop the thief from jumping off the roof Chloe was supportive of him and seemed to genuinely care about his well being despite him taking off without her early on in the chase. Granted they still have trust issues as was evident by Chloe making Lucifer open the container in front of her, but they are making steady improvements as partners. I look forward to watching the partnership continue to evolve and grow but for the growth to continue this show must allow Chloe to accept the truth about Lucifer and soon. Chloe’s inability to accept Lucifer for who he really is, and whom he continually tells her he is, remains the most frustrating part of the show. A whole world of story potential will open as soon as she accepts the truth and I look forward to the moment that it finally happens. With every passing episode that this doesn’t happen I grow more anxious for the moment to finally arrive. Here is to hoping it happens sooner than later.
Someone I hope stays in the dark indefinitely regarding Lucifer is Dan but this week I did really enjoy his story. I agree with Lucifer when he told Chloe he felt bad that Dan had to face down Maze on his own. When watching that scene I knew Dan was in for it especially the moment he turned his back on Maze. The dynamic between Lesley-Ann Brandt and Kevin Alejandro really translated beautifully to their characters. It was fun watching Maze mess with Dan especially after she realized he was Chloe’s ex. While I doubt Dan will have any interest in hanging around Maze again anytime soon I think it would be fun to see them in more scenes together. I think Maze could have a whole lot of fun messing with him and let’s face it she needs to be allowed to have a little demonic fun every now and then. Besides I prefer she continue to screw with Dan instead of going after Chloe but based off Dan’s unfortunate placement in Chloe’s bed it seems like Maze won’t forget about Chloe anytime soon. While it put Dan in a really awkward situation with Trixie it did make for a hilarious scene. It also allowed fans to see Dan in a whole new light as his eavesdropping on Chloe allowed him to come to a realization regarding his own shortcomings. He has no chance of putting his family back together if he keeps making them second to his work. For the first time I really enjoyed Dan throughout this episode and loved that at the end he showed up to be there for Trixie on taco night. He might not be the most likable character but he isn’t without his redemptive moments.
As usual Scarlett Estevez was brilliant and for such a young actress she has an incredible grasp of her character. The way she handled the cake interrogation scene at the start of the episode and the Trixie catching her dad naked and hiding in her room scene was brilliant. I hope that the show will start to feature her more in future episodes because they have a real gem in Estevez. Some child actors are good at their job but just can’t make a mark for themselves against their more established adult co-stars but in the case of Estevez she always steals the scenes from whoever she is in a scene with. She is a gifted young actress that I think can handle much more in-depth material. For now I’ll happily settle for the moments of levity she brings when she’s on screen but in time I hope they let her show us her full acting range which I suspect is quite diverse.
While this episode had a lot of great moments my favorite moment of the whole episode occurred between Dr. Linda and Lucifer. From the moment Amenadiel started to give his advice on how Dr. Linda could help her patient I knew things were about to get interesting. First off Dr. Linda picked a really bad confidant but at least it is making for some great scenes. Secondly, of all the beings on the planet and in existence to piss off I’m fairly certain the Devil should be at the very bottom of everyone’s list. I know Dr. Linda believes Lucifer is just living out a grand identity crisis but she took a hell of a risk pushing him like she did. Even if he was just an average Joe pushing someone to that extent could turn very dangerous very quickly. She got lucky that Lucifer unleashes his true self on the vile and villainous but I think she came very close to getting to know the real Lucifer. I think the trigger for Lucifer was that Dr. Linda was trying to make him believe that his father truly loves him and cast him out so he could rise again not because he hated his son but because he knew his son could handle the challenge. This was a great moment to see how deep rooted Lucifer’s daddy issues are and it became obvious that it will take a lot of time for him to truly forgive his father. The interesting thing about all this is that Lucifer seems incapable of believing that he is the being his father believes him to be. Despite his cocky personality and play boy ways he can’t seem to see his own self worth and therefore can’t accept that his father saw that kind of potential in him when he himself can’t see it. Making Lucifer a troubled soul just like his human counterparts makes him a much more relatable character and was a very good story choice by the writers.
Rachael Harris and Ellis were brilliant together in this scene. They shared this scene and the weight it held and together they gave the audience a deep and meaningful moment. The one thing Amenadiel got right was that Lucifer needed to be forced to confront the true reason he was cast out. I believe Amenadiel was hoping that by Dr. Linda getting Lucifer to confront his daddy issues it would get him to come back home but ultimately I think it drove Lucifer closer to humans and further from his father. If the show continues on this daddy issues path they will sooner or later write themselves into a corner where they will have to give Lucifer’s father a human form. Eventually their father will have to come and make peace with his son on his own and that would be a truly defining moment for the show. Lucifer hearing his father cares from Dr. Linda and even Amenadiel doesn’t hold the same weight as Lucifer hearing it from his father’s own mouth. If this ever happens I’m sure it’s many seasons away but I hope something happens to at least give him a small semblance of temporary peace. Much like the Chloe not accepting Lucifer storyline this one can only go on so long without some payoff.
Without a doubt to Amenadiel and Dr. Linda Lucifer was and still remains God’s favorite son. Surely that must bug Amenadiel and their other brothers and sisters that are running around out there. It’s obvious that after Lucifer became a fallen angel he had a major falling out with his father yet he still remained the favorite son. Amenadiel was sent after Lucifer for a reason and while it isn’t clear yet I do wonder if they once had a close relationship. That makes one wonder about Lucifer’s other angelic siblings. Could one of them be battling some serious jealousy issues and commissioned this theft? I think that would make for a fun and interesting twist in the story. More likely it’s probably some damned soul or demon that is now free and gunning for Lucifer but I really like the idea of an angelic sibling trying to destroy Lucifer to obtain the favorite child status.
I can’t exit this review without mentioning Tom Ellis and the piano playing musical piece of brilliance at the start of the episode. I knew Ellis had a background in musical theatre but I never imagined this show being able to work it in. Now, given there is a piano in Lux and he’s sat at it more than a few times this shouldn’t have surprised me but it did. He delivered a brilliant performance in this scene and I truly hope this wasn’t a one off and we’ll get to see Lucifer perform again so we can all be treated to Ellis’ extraordinary musical talent.
Now that we know Lucifer’s wings are in unknown hands the race is on to retrieve them and bring swift and harsh justice down on the head of the mastermind. From the previews for the next episode the hunt is on for Lucifer’s wings. Will Chloe’s involvement in this case finally lead her to believe the truth?
FOX on Monday, March 7th at 9/8C to find out what comes of Lucifer’s wings.
Hit the comments with your thoughts about this episode. Do you think this case of the stolen wings will lead Chloe to accept the truth? Who do you think stole the wings? How do you think they found out about his wings? Do you think Lucifer is capable of forgiving his father? Did you like that Lucifer and Dr. Linda confrontation? What was your favorite part of the episode?

Every day 100\'s of items are submitted to us and we don\'t always have the time to make separate posts for the news and/or there is so much that it would quickly push all other items off the homepage.
So a result we\'ve come up with the idea of the Newsreel, which will feature smaller shows and news items as they happen.
There will be a new Newsreel each day, and as news is added we will update the post and and push it back to the top of the site so that you can see that new items have been added. A tweet of the item will also be sent to our @SpoilerTV account.
This will allow us to provide more news on more shows in a much more timely fashion
Rather that creating lots of new posts as new info is released and fragmenting the commentary, we thought it would be a good idea for the upcoming major movies to create a single post for each major movies that will collate all the info as it\'s posted.
New items will be added to the top of the list as well as the post being re-posted back to the top of the homepage when a new item is added. We will additionally send out a fresh tweet alerting you of the new information.
This will allow you to bookmark this page so that you can return to it whenever you like. It will also help consolidate all the discussion on this movie in a central place and make it less likely that you\'ll miss some key information.
