So, i'm here to talk about two things: the song and Sooyoung's reciente treatement in Japan

So as tu may all know, SNSD's "Show girls" was released yesterday, along with the Divine PV

My thoughts about the song: i freakin' amor IT. i know it sounds like two different songs but honestly, who the fuck cares? so many people praise Express 999 (me included) and it sounds like two songs combined. So, for me, that's not a valid reason to dislike "Show girls"
tu could argue that the song, in general is quite silly and yeah i have to agree. it gives me a "circus" feel and all those randoms "whoo's" in the chorus makes me think of this song as a complete filler
however, it's different from everything SNSD has done, so far. the chorus is really catchy and fun. and the verses are really nice too.

Now, for the main issue of this article: Sooyoung's reciente treatement in Japan

Is it just me o she's basically a Lead vocal in japón now?

since 2013 that Sooyoung is canto más and more. and now that Jessica is gone i think she'll be a lead vocal in Korea too. unless SM decides to focus on TTS and Sunny's vocals only.

let's analyze all their japanese songs released since last year

Gossip girls- in this song, Sooyoung is the third member with the most lines. only Taeyeon and Jessica sing más than her

Motorcycle- altough she had the same number of lines as the other dancers, she gets to sing in the chorus, which are usually dado to main and lead vocals

Flyers- this song is quite a mess because even on live performances, every member keeps lipsyncing each others' lines. so it doesn't really help. but, from what i hear in the official studio version, she sings más than HyoYulYoon and has the same number of lines as Sunny

Galaxy supernova- Do i need to explain? this is Sooyoung's song. lool. if tu mostrar this to a non-snsd fan, the person will think Sooyoung is part of the vocal line

amor & girls- same number of lines as the other dancers but her lines are longer, más memorable and require a lot más effort

My oh my- 3 freakin' lines. same number as Jessica, Seohyun, Sunny. only Taeyeon and Tiffany sing más than her and that's because they have adlibs at the end

Lips- she sings más than the other dancers and has the same number of lines as Sunny

Do the catwalk- tecnhically speaking, she and Yuri are the members with the most lines in this song.

Karma butterfly- nicely distributed song. every member gets 2 lines, except for TTS and Jessica

Língua franca- only TTS sing más than her. she has the same number of lines as Jessica and Sunny

Everyday love- 4 lines. same number as Sunny, Seohyun and Jessica. and she sings más than Taeyeon and Tiffany

Blue jeans- same number of lines as Jessica. she sings más than Tiffany. Sunny, Seohyun and Taeyeon sing más than her

Indestructible- the line distribution for this song is still quite a mistery but i know for sure that she sings más than HyoYulYoon. she also seems to sing más than Sunny and Jessica, with only TTS canto más than her.

Divine- according to the PV....Sooyoung has 4 lines, same amount as Sunny and más than HyoYulYoon.

Chain reaction and Beep beep- not gonna count these two songs because: even though Chain reaction was released this year, it was recorded in 2011. and Beep beep had an MV in 2013 but it was recorded in 2012. either way, Sooyoung gets a nice amount of lines in both songs

and now for their latest release, mostrar girls

i gotta say i was quite shocked. only Taeyeon, Tiffany and Jessica sing más than her. she actually has más lines than Seohyun and Sunny and the lines they gave her are actually very impressive and tu can tell how much she improved. she sings very beautiful high notes in this song and i'm very proud of her

but listen to Sooyoung's lines at 0:48, 1:39 and 1:58 and tell me what do tu think. did she improve? are tu surprised that Seohyun didn't get Sooyoung's line at 1:58, instead?

and do tu think she's getting treated like a lead vocalist now? at least in Japan?

BlackPearlLuver I don't mind her being a lead vocal. The only problem that I would have is if they didn't take her off the dance line. I would find it totally unfair for HyoYulYoon. Sooyoung can dance for sure, but the other members deserve to get spotlight. It's also unfair for everyone when she is the only member in poth positions. I think she should: Leave the dance line, become a lead vocal Or Stay in the dance line, not be a lead vocal.

pretty_angel92 BlackPearlLuver i don't think it's unfair. there's so many idols in kpop groups that are given the lead vocal and lead dancer positions the problem here is that SM decided from the beginning that in snsd, if you're a lead vocal, you can't be part of the dance line. and if you're a lead dancer, you can't be part of the vocal line i find that pretty stupid, tbh

DaniMF I don't see the problem of being in both. Despite being a dacer she doesn't act like one, neither of SNSD despite Hyo does. TTS is usually in the center, so neither Sooyoung nor other dancer is in the middle. Also, I think she's better than Sunny.

Tiagih2 I really think your taking this to another level but i think its good to acknowledge the achievements of your bias. Sooyoung is getting more lines, that much is obvious her being a lead vocalist, is where you lose me. Sooyoung is getting singing parts that aren't really hard, that is why she isn't a lead vocalist. She is getting more lines because she has a better grasp of the language, not because she is a good singer. Her singing live isn't "lead" standard, trust me if she was a lead (which imo could happen int he near future) she would have more experienced singing parts in thier korean releases. That being said sooyoung has improved in her singing, that much is obvious.

pretty_angel92 Tiagih2 i have to disagree. some of her singing lines, i can't imagine the other dancers doing it. that's i pointed out those lines she has in "show girls". i really can't imagine hearing HyoYulYoon singing as high as she sang. Sooyoung is obviously better in high pitched notes i knew you would talk about the language but i'll just ask you this: if that was really case, then how do you explain the fact that in their previous japanese albums, Sooyoung was treated like shit? she only started to get lots of lines since their THIRD japanese album so, this isn't about fluency ONLY "her singing isn't lead standard". i understand what you're trying to say but let's be honest, how many lead vocals in kpop are actually worse than Sooyoung? i can mention some, if you want and i really didn't want to bring any other member to the discussion but...Sunny's lives aren't "lead" standard either. she actually goes off tune quite often and she relies too much on aegyo, to cover up some of her flaws

Tiagih2 1. Sooyoung is better at high pitched notes because coincidentally all the dancers have naturally way lower tones than she does, her voice is naturally high pitched. Sooyoung can't sing as low as Yoona/yuri can without shaking, its a matter of natural vocal tone. 2. Sooyoung sounded like shit years ago, she got better at singing that is why they are okay with giving her more lines in thier japanese single, however again they aren't challenging parts for her to sing. 3. Sunny has done musicals her singing is way better than Sooyoung if what the best example compare using the fancam Express 999, and quit with the aegyo shit, she hardly does it, her voice is high pitched that is why we call it aegyo. Also lets be honest, Sunny isn't much to brag about however she sings live way better than Sooyoung, and can sing higher without shaking. Sooyoung since Jessica is gone and with more improvement can be a lead vocalist material, just not now because her live singing isn't that good and what she actually sings isn't always hard she just has an easier time than the other dancers. She [b]can[/b] be a lead vocalist if things go the way they are, i just don't think its any time soon.

BlackPearlLuver @pretty_angel92: I know many groups have members where they are in both positions, but they have less members. Snsd has 8 total members as of now and if Sooyoung gets to be in both positions, that would be pretty unfair. If she becomes a lead vocal, I only want YulHyoYoon to do dances and stuff. Plus, Sooyoung is doing a lot of things that it would be nice for more members other than tts to her more recognition . Of course I'm not saying she doesn't deserve it, but I want Yuri, Hyoyeon, and Yoona to get the spotlight in them in something they are talented at.

ImSoYoonAh I still actually belive that Yuri sings better than Sooyoung. Sooyoung's voice is overrated. Just because she gets many lines in japanese songs (because she can speak the language best) we suddenly believe her singing is of a lead vocalist standard which is incorrect. Yeah she can sing really well (better than Yoona and Hyoyeon) but thats about it. Her singing live is not that great or she just lipsyncs too often and i think if SM wanted her to be a main vocal then she would also get more lines in their korean songs. Sooyoung's voice wouldnt actually bring anything unique or special to the lead vocal line. Her voice is basically like Sunny's but nowhere near as good. But despite that i absolutely love it. Sooyoung is a star and she does deserve the amount of lines she has as she is more talented vocally than Yoona and Hyoyeon. But this line increase should only stick in the japanese songs due to her language skills. Yuri should get more lines in the korean songs and i think she already does get more (or more voccally challenging) lines than Sooyoung does. I like this article but i think youre getting ahead of yourself with the Lead vocal thing

Tiagih2 ^^ I do think that all the dancers save Yoona have good singing potential. I don't think its unfair because to be fair Sooyoung is the only one who has verbally expressed she wants more singing lines, the squicky wheel gets the oil. ^I don't think Yuri is a better singer, she doesn't harder parts like Sooyoung so while Sooyoung is shaky like a leaf, its because she is doing more work than Yuri. She is getting better, but not lead vocalist, yet.

Jesmile Well, after reading all the comments it comes to the conclusion: whether or if Sooyoung will be the lead vocal instead of Jessica? That would be awesome! Coz, srsly, Sooyoung's voice is much more standard than Yuri, Yoona and Hyoyeon. And also Sunny's in some respect. Obviously, Sooyoung is not so good as sunny nor Jessica but it would be pretty cool to have her in the lead vocal. But I still love her voice... even more than sunny in fact. Just look at how much she has improved in singing! I just loved her voice in Galaxy Supernova! Also Do The Catwalk... So it would be definitely great if she's going to be the lead singer. Again, she's also TOO good in dancing. Atleast more than Yoona ( and Yuri too. In my opinion). She's a good dancer and it would really hurt for not seeing her as the lead dancer. But I don't think it would matter bcz the position of lead singer is much more rocking than being the lead dancer. @BlackPearlLuver I disagree with you in some respect. If Sooyoung has the capability and talent to sing and dance, I think she could be both. She has a talent that the world need to know. Again, HyoYoonYul are also in the spot light too. If you look at them, you'll see that Hyoyeon is the dancing queen of Korea, Yoona is regarded as goddess of Beauty. Just say kpop to one person, he/she will say "oh, Yoona?" See? She's definitely popular. And for Yuri, she's the goddess of sexiness. She and Yoona are considered to be one of the most popular members. So, I don't think it will be unfair to them if Sooyoung gets the spotlight. Bcz after all, they are much more famous than Sooyoung... and also nowadays, Hyoyeon is receiving a lot of popularity.

Yoona doesn't have that much of a low voice. but yeah, naturally, Sooyoung will sound better in high pitched notes. which are usually given to more skilled vocalists. as for low notes, tbh only Hyo sounds good without shaking. 2-so, you basically confirmed what i said earlier....the reason Sooyoung is getting more lines is because she improved and not because she's fluent, lool 3-Sunny is better because she was trained to be a vocalist. i asked some vocal experts about SooSun's difference in vocals and they all said the difference was really small and that Sunny is only better than Sooyoung because SM focused on Sooyoung's dancing instead. express 999? you mean their performance with those black outfits? tbh, i thought only Sooyoung and Seohyun sounded good but ok o_O i guess we have very different opinions actually, she does aegyo quite a lot. compare her vocals in "ITNW" and their recent songs. do you think it's just a coincidence that her voice got higher and higher over the years? i wasn't trying to compare Sooyoung and Jessica and it would be pathetic if i said Sooyoung is better than her. however, like you said, Sooyoung has potential to be a lead vocal

pretty_angel92 BlackPearlLuver well, tbh if you think about it, Seohyun is a bit of both too. altough SM doesn't focus on her dancing, she's the 5th best dancer according to them. and on dance covers, Seohyun is included with the rest of the dancers

Tiagih2 1.um yeah Yoona has a low voice, listen to her sing and you will notice. You really need to go listen to them perform, Yuri voice isn't as shaky as Sooyoung. 2. She is improving like the rest of the members have improved to some capacity, however that improvement isn't lead vocalist material. 3. I don't know who you are talking to but Sunny and Sooyoung are noticeably far apart. Sunny voice isn't as shaky and she can hit and hold more notes than Sooyoung can, that is why they are noticeably far apart. Sunny's musical performances should confirm that, her work in musical shows off her true potential something that Sooyoung has yet to meet. Also yes Sunny was trained as a vocalist but Sooyoung's mother was an opera singer, both had equal opportunity to get vocal training. Also Sooyoung was in a group earlier so she was trained to be a vocalist as some point in her career, not to mention she was trained way longer than Sunny was that. Lets not make excuses. What is important is that she is taking her singing more serious. Recent songs? So Genie, RDR, Hoot, The Boys, Mr Mr, Dancing Queen, IGAB where is the aegyo? I admit in thier albums there is some occasionally but its not often, again listen to more songs. I didn't say you said she was compariable to jessica, I said she isn't at the level, yet.

She's just noting out how much line Sooyoung gets than others and if she could be next in line to get Jessica's lines and be one of the lead singers. So why are you comparing between the two? We all know that Sunny's voice is way better than Sooyoung's. This article is about whether Sooyoung could be one of the lead vocalist or not. And I'm not being rude or anything. Tiagih2 ^ I didn't bring up Sunny first, she did hence why we are still discussing it, the measure of difference between the two is the main discussion, not if there is a difference. I already said in my first post Sooyoung doesn't met the standard to be a lead vocalist right now even with all her improvement and extra singing parts (only in japan). I never said she could never be in the future, I just don't see her doing "lead" work anytime soon.

ImSoYoonAh You said that now Jessica is gone, you think she will be a lead vocal in korea. Yeah she doesn't sound great live, neither does Yuri, i accept that but studio wise, Yuri sounds better and more stable I think. I didn't say she gets more lines ONLY because she can speak the language well but I do think that is one of the major reasons, I think that if there are more reasons then her line increase would be in korean songs too, but so far I haven't seen that. And i think Yuri gets a little more lines from what i've seen. I dont actually count every single line in every single song, i dont do that deep research lol

Previously wrote is about SNSD / Girls' Generation member Taeyeon and her possible departure as leader of the group on SBS Kang Shim Jang / Strong Heart. Well, the episode has finally aired.
