Hoot hoot! Today’s the big day: It’s superb owl Sunday! On this momentous occasion, we celebrate the majesty of these fantastic fowl and the value they bring to Disney movies. From educating fellow woodland creatures, to serving as princely dance partners, and even rocking fashionable flat-brimmed hats, owls add a touch of something special to every screen they grace. They are friend to “Big Game” in the forest, like deer, but also take time to care for the small creatures, like a wee baby fox. Here are 10 reasons why Disney owls are so superb:
, Big Mama is little Tod’s guardian angel, and watches over him through the years.
2. They’re knowledgeable about a wide range of topics.
Owls are known for being wise, but in Owl of the Hundred Acre Wood’s case, he is also learned on a variety of topics. He’s not always
in his knowledge, but he definitely presents himself that way, and sometimes it’s confidence that counts.
Owls live inside of trees, which means they basically get to live in treehouses. We are particularly big fans of Archimedes’ little tree-shaped birdhouse bungalow in Merlin’s house (and we hope it didn’t suffer damages when shrunken down and placed inside his bag).
4. They are always willing to step up and help out.
Owls are there to help you up and brush you off when you’ve fallen down a chimney … and will step in to assist in situations that aren’t as specific as this example. They’re always quick on their talons to come up with a plan. They also look great in wide-brim hats.
If you don’t have a prince at-the-ready to sweep you across the forest floor, a few cuddly friends and a friendly owl can step in to take his place. Their wing-eye coordination needs a little work, but they can really hold their own.
’s Owl had so many family stories, they filled up a whole book! (We’ll always be curious about the story behind getting his beak stuck in a keyhole.)
Wizards are the best. Owls are the best. It just makes sense.
Owls do not like to be disturbed from their slumber, which is something that everyone can relate to. Friend Owl from
is the sweetest, friendliest owl, but we would probably make that face too if someone woke us up from our midday nap.
Everyone knows the most important question is “WHO?”
The old adage holds true, owls really are wise. Big Mama’s words of wisdom to Tod are full of truth: “Darlin’, forever is a long, long time, and time has a way of changing things.”
Here’s a bonus GIF of Friend Owl doing a cool dance move.
