I thought Disney made up the movies themselves. I didn't know that they were based on real life books. And anytime I heard someone tell the story of Cinderella, etc, I thought they got it from the Disney movie. Same for if I read any books...such as, if I read "Cinderella" I would think the book was based on the Disney movie. XD

I have friends who still think Disney are the original versions of most of the stories.

Hard to say either yes, or no. Because I read almost all these fairytales when I was a kid - now I don't remember too much though - and I always didn't understand why the book and the movie were so different. So, I thought they weren't based on those books, that they just had the same names etc.

However, I did think Mulan was original, but 2 years ago, i found out it was a chinese legend...

agree with princesslullaby, I thought the books were based off the Disney movies rather than the other way around :P Except for Pocahontas and Mulan, I thought those were true stories.

Yeah, I thought they were original until I started getting into reading! (about 2-3 years ago) Then I realized that 99% of dinsey movies are based of books, short stories, even poems(like Mulan).
Also, once I read The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Alice in Wonderland and some of the original fairy tales, it made me apprciate the movies much more!

Yes but I found out the truth when I read the real story of The Little Mermaid when I was 7. Ever since then I wanted to hear the original stories. When I was in first grade I heard about Pocahontas from my teacher and it was sad. So I eventually found out where the original stories came from and I like all of them except for the original Little Mermaid and Pocahontas they're so sad.

Yes, until I heard that some guy named Hans Christen Anderson wrote The Little Mermaid first, and then I read his version. I think I was about 8 or something, so most of my childhood, I thought the stories came from Disney first.

Geniuses, right? They are still geniuses to take a twist in every story they turn into a movie.
