I know this is a crazy question to ask, but I've heard a lot of people debating and fighting at my local church. I thought I'd get some input from others.

I'm probably not going to make it in, but if I don't get in I don't know where I'd go. I doubt hell. I haven't and don't plan to be the kind of person who'd go there. So, I guess purgatory. I hope not though.

anyone can go to heaven if they accept Christ into their hearts! its not about what kind of person you are or about your religion its whether you truly believe in God!

In the presence of my Lord and Father God. If I am found worthy of his presence. Anyone who believes Jesus died and raised again for their sins and receives him as their Lord and savoir. Changing their ways and doing what he preached, are rest assured that they will indeed spend eternity with God as part of his family. Hell isn't a walk in the park; it's everlasting torture. The last place you want to go is hell.

You should care. It'll be for eternity. Won't compare to the couple 90 or some years on Earth. Will be less for me since the world is ending.

I don't believe in Hell so it doesn't bother me. I know I'm not perfect but I choose to be good because I have morals, not because I'm scared of going to hell.

As a Christian I am going to Heaven no doubt, hell is a terrible place to go. Me and my mom watch these movies every Friday night telling what it will be like when the Rapture comes and takes all the Christians to Heaven, and if you are not a Christian you are going to either have to face the mark or death, but there is only two places to go Heaven or Hell, no other choices.

Nothing in nature has an end or a beginning it’s hard to imagine a stopping point for souls.

What happens if another religion is right instead and all people who do not follow that faith go to their version of Hell?

I don't believe in God, in Heaven, Hell nor whatever... I am good because I like to, and sometimes I was bad and I felt bad, and sometimes I was bad and I was glad I was. But who says what's right and what's wrong? Because we all agree that killing is wrong, but we could disagree about what IS actually killing. Because i'm prochoice about abortion and I don't think that is murder. So who determines what's being a good person and what's being a bad person?

If there is such a thing as heaven, hell and God because of what the bible says I should go straight to hell and burn in it's flames for the rest of eternity...

But I agree with Praesse. for starters I'm proabortion. If I ever fell in love with a woman I would be with her without hesitating for even a second.

For me the only thing that counts is being happy with our lives and being proud of what we do. If I do good things every day it's becuase I want to and I feel good with that, not because God told me to or I will go to hell. If I do something bad and regret it I try to make things right to be happy with myself. and if I ever do something wrong and feel good about it (what I do most of the time) I don't care just because I'm happy with myself.
I think we should try to be as happy as possible without disturbing otehrs.

I also think that most of the people who said are going to heaven are not being completly honest with theirselves.

You never really know where your going to spend eternity.The balance is tipped to many times before you die to tell.If you confess your sins and that God is our savior, then you most likely will go to heaven.But it depends on what you do AFTER you confess that also judges where you will go.

if there is such a thing as god,heaven,etc. then i'm going to hell for not believing in him. i like the fact that christians believe there's somewhere else after death as most don't fear it due to the fact that they think there's something good afterwards

actually, i think there were some good arguments from the non-Christians. it's the Christians who have so far failed to explain (for the most part) why any of them feel they will be the ones going to heaven.

i've always thought the reasons most Christians think they are going to heaven and others aren't are completely illogical. also, the fact that Jesus himself was not a Christian and never proclaimed to be anything other than a devout Jew means that he doesn't fit the bill either (which Mac pointed out).

the idea of Gandhi going to hell is so completely ludicrous i don't know why it hasn't changed everyone's minds.

EDIT: now i've gone and forgotten to answer the original question! i'm not sure if i believe in an afterlife in the way that most religious people do. i believe that every particle of my being will be dispersed into the universe to make new life.. because, well, that's what happens when you die. whether or not my "soul" is included in that, i'm not really sure. but i think i'd be ok with it.

God loves us no matter what. Personally, I don't see why people won't accept Christ, what is asking Him into your heart for a minute and just praising Him for your short life on earth!? I mean, would you rather not do that and go to everlasting misery and torture? I sure wouldn't, I am glad I have accepted Christ in my heart and I am going to Heaven! Halleluiah!

blondekid, you completely contradicted yourself in that statement. you can't say that "God loves us no matter what" and then turn around and insinuate that only people who have "accepted Christ in [their] heart[s]" are going to Heaven.

as for why people won't just mindlessly turn to Christianity with the horrible threat of eternity spent in hell looming over them, the answer i would give for that is because it would be a lie. i don't believe, even after VERY extensive research (both spiritual and intellectual), that Jesus was literally the son of God, literally died on the cross to cleanse us of sins and literally was resurrected three days later before ascending to heaven. and short of the big guy himself actually physically appearing before me and saying "y'know, it'd be a good idea to start worshipping me as your Lord and Saviour, pronto", i'm not going to be change my mind.

I feel you're in for a HUGE surprise at the end of time, blisslikethis. We all may be, believer and non-believer alike. I'd love to think I'll go to Heaven, but that's for God & Jesus to decide. I want to see my father again and behold the beautiful shining faces of God and Jesus Christ.

How do we know the world is ending? How do we know that what we are seeing is actually everything the Book of Revelation has expressed? It may be, it may not be. We don't exactly know. I don't really like to think about it since I feel I still have much to do down here. But it is like my mother told me a long time ago, "It's not for us to worry about or think about. What is for us to be concerned about is what we can still do for the Lord while we are still here."

I don't wana be wrong, I wana live with my God for eternity in Heaven.
I do good things because I wana, I am scared of Hell, but I do good things not out of fear. But, not I'm more unsure of God than ever, I feel like I should be in Hell. I just don't wana.

I don't believe in hell. To me the idea of a loving God torturing people for eternity for sins committed during a life-time of 80 years seems unjust and not compatible with God's personlaity.

I believe that the punishment for sin is death. Good people get rewarded with eternal life on earth in Paradise. Heaven is only for a select few. References: Romans 6:23; Psalm 37:11,29, Revelation 14:1-3

Like most non-christians here, I have to say that I'll propably go to hell. That doesn't scare me, since I don't believe in it.
I don't mean to offend anyone by saying it like that. I just can't believe in god, jezus, heaven and hell, it does not make sense to me.
So if in the end it turns out I got it wrong, I will go to hell.

I truthfully don't have a clue where I'll end up when I die. There are a lot of times when I'm hoping and praying to get to the promised land, but other times where I just don't care if I go to hell or wherever. I'm having a lot of problems at home and school, so I have a lot of mixed emotions and thoughts. But God does want all of his children to go to Heaven, so he understands what my family and I are going through.

Unfortunately hope is not enough.
You have to Fully Rely, Trust, Hope and Believe on/in God

This means you need to have a one on one conversation with God.
Just go to your room, close your eyes, and speak to him. Pour out your heart to him. (tell Him whats going on in your life) He will listen.

Then once you believe, say this pray (or something like it) to Him:
Dear Lord, I know/admit that I'm a sinner, and that the wages of sin is death. And I ask you for forgiveness of my sins. For I believe that Jesus, Your only son, died that I may be saved from my sins, and He rose from the dead three days later, and b/c of Him I am saved. And in Jesus' name I pray Amen.

If and only if you truely say and believe (not only say the pray, but mean it to.) this pray, then you will be saved, and will go to heaven. Not only that, but if you get into the Word (Bible), and pray to Him. Your life will change for the better.

My life was changed forever, and I pray that yours will be true.
Also if you need help in your faith, find a true Christian, and ask him to help you. Let the Lord speak to you through His Word.

I'm not saying that speaking a few words will save you, but if you do believe in them with all your heart, your final destination will be Heaven.

I was promised Heaven and I trust the Lord will deliver. Besides I'm at heart a univeralist. I pretty much believe we're all going to heaven. It wouldn't be heaven if we didn't.

Hell is a place of EXTREME toture that you will have to suffer for all eternity. Imagine the worst pain you have ever felt in your life, times that by 1,000 and imagine that happening your entire life.

That pain is nothing compared to Hell.

^^ I have read up on this and alot of Christains say that hell is just not being in god's light or presence. There are alot of different interpretations of what the pain of hell might be. Does anybody else believe in something different - just out of interest?

Also what if you can't believe in God? A few of my friends where having this discussion - one friend inperticular said she would love to have faith in god and that's she's tried but that she just doesn't believe it. She could say she does but that would be a lie. Do you think it's fair that she go to hell when she literally can't believe in god? Again just out of interest.

Can't believe in God...hmm...well, the Bible says that nature shows the glory of the Lord, history shows the glory of the Lord, everything is for the glory of the Lord, just by looking outside, I think wow, He made this for me. "The heavens declare the glory of the Lord."

Well everyone is accountable for their sins whether they want to be or not, and saying their is no God is an excuse people use, just so they don't have to admit their sin.

Well, that depends. If heaven and hell actually exist, I'm sure to end up in Hell since I've always lacked any kind of christian faith.

If not, I'm pretty sure I'll be reincarnated.

Too be completely honest I have always saw Christ as my SAVIOR and I have faith that I always will, I will say this im not sure where I will go, I would certainly LOVE to live in Heaven for all eternity and when the Rapture does come which dont be surprised when it does I hope and I pray to my Lord that will have the faith that I have TODAY but there is one phrase that I have learned about that specific people will recognize "Forget about the past, don't dwell on the future, but LIVE for today!" and that is very hard to do but if you can accomplish it and have faith.

I am so glad Christ died for my sins otherwise I would be in the eternal torture of Satans minions.

I'm kind of disappointed, I mean, I'm not trying to put pressure on anyone or something but, when someone who doesn't have God in his heart says ''For me the only thing that counts is being happy with our lives and being proud of what we do.'' Personally I do not believe in spending an Eternity anywhere, if not in the never ending cycle of Life, Death and Rebirth. I believe in reicanation, I do not believe that a sperson's soul remains the same in death as the person was in life. I believe in the path of enlightenment which must transend lives in order to be attained, which means that there is no Heaven and Hell which in typical discription would be considred dead end roads. Heaven and Hell are to me what we experience in life; Life can be Hell or it can be Heaven. We will be reborn again into this world and it can be Heaven or it can be Hell, but that's the point, it takes Life experiences to gain the right wisdom and knowledge of both the good and the bad to be considered worthy of attaning any kind of Eternal Life, which is to come with a perfected and enlightened soul. This can not take place within the span of a single and minscule moral lifetime, but maybe hundreds of lives. So with this in mind I pick EARTH, because I believe it is right back here where I will end up, untill my soul earns what it needs to ascend, and I know it's still got a LONG ways to go.

And well if the world doesn't last that long, well oh well... then I can accept an eternity of Nothing. My self and my future selves can cease, who cares, why do you need to live on after death anyways? Sounds like something you'd hear from a person who's too darn attached to their love of life they'd take it with them to the world beyond. Love, life, friends, family just can't let it go.

Uh, I would like to say heaven because I am a devoted Christian, but I won't say for sure because only God decides. And there is no purgatory, only heaven and hell. We are all going to one or the other so I will work on being the best Christian I can to get there. I deserve hell, we all do! But God is merciful and maybe I will get to heaven and be with him forever. I hope you all do too! :)

The greatest thing i can imagine after death is to be bound to earth and nature itself, that gives me more freedom to live instead to be afraid of a fictional place called HELL (tough if it does exist it must be fabulous with all the gays down there)

& about those who r using the excuse that Jesus was a non-Christian since he was a Jew: He was the King of the Jews (or was supposed to be), but a lot of people were against Jesus & some Jews didnt believe that Christ had come yet, so thats where the original Jews vs. now Jews & Christians became loyal followers of Jesus after his death & when some Jews came to think that the true Messiah hadnt come yet. So back then, Jesus being a Jew is different than it is now.

God made this promise to all people, and by doing so made things realllly easy for us- if you believe Jesus is the Christ and the Son of the Living God and accept Him as your personal Lord and Savior, there's no need for you to question where you're going to end up. I'm surprised at how many Christians there are who aren't sure of their salvation- God's main concern is that you either believe that Jesus is the Son of God and died on the cross for your sins, or you don't. You can't "earn" your way into heaven. If it were dependent on merit, none of us would qualify. The Bible does tell us that if we act as good stewards with what we are entrusted with here on Earth, God will increase our reward in Heaven, but Other than that, merit does not play a part- its simply all about accepting and believing in Jesus. Pretty sweet deal huh?

The saints of Jesus Christ do not spend eternity in heaven. After the Great White Throne Judgment, God reveals the new heaven and the new earth. Those who know Jesus Christ as their Savior will spend eternity in the new heaven and earth.

I can't say where I will spend my eternity right at this point in time - it will depend on what I do with the rest of my life. When I stand before God on Judgement Day, my life will be looked back on and hopefully I will be able to look at it and smile because I have kept faith in my Lord.

Honestly if I died right now I wouldn't go to heaven. I do not think I am saved. But only God knows that.

Even Hindus, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Jains, etc? They can be good people too- not just Christians you know. What if someone was born into a different religion? And what, if like you suggest, if Christianity is true, and all people of other religions will go to Hell- what of someone that has never been exposed to Christianity? Never knew of it? What about children of other faiths? Or just good people in general, that aren't Christians? Nobel Peace Price Laureates? Will they go to Hell also?

I am agnostic. I don't know what will happen when we die, and I challenge people who are certain that they do- it's a bit vain; boastful to claim ton know one of lives greatest mysteries. In my view anyway.

It's funny- the theory of Hell and Heaven, far from scaring me into believing, has done the opposite- I cannot worship such a God. I cannot worship a God that condemns people to eternal suffering just because they did not worship him. It seems so wrong, and indeed, if God does that, I would feel contempt for him. Yes, contempt for god. The Christian one anyway, if all the Bible says about him is true.

I KNOW that I'll go to God's kingdom and I'll spend and eternity with Jesus! I just KNOW it! We're all sinners! We ALL sinned a lot! But that doesn't mean we're going to hell! That's up to us! God has a very special and incredible power... And that's not to shoot lasers from eyes, make money fall form the sky... It's to forgive! The lord will always forgive, if you truly desire His forgiveness! But if you won't apologize, won't regret your sins, you'll be given another life on earth. there is no Hell like flames everywhere, boiling water, red demons and stuff... For out not regretted sins, our punishment will be another life on earth based on out last life. If you do something bad to a person, you'll get the same thing done to you! And I always regret my sins! I always ask for God's forgiveness! I know that I'll go to Heaven and spend and eternity with my family and Jesus! I'll actually see Him! So I'll live the life God granted me until my time of freedom will come!

But that doesn't mean life on earth is bad, this is actually our lesson, our journey! We are all immortal, we live a life on earth then another life. :)

@ThePrincesTale: Well, I agree with part of that. I agree that the thing about non-Christians going to Hell is ridiculous, which is why I just don't believe in that one aspect of Christian religion. Actually... there are a FEW aspects of the Christian religion I don't agree with, like the things which have been PROVEN wrong by science. And I don't at all believe that thing that says science and religion can't co-exist, because if God created everything, HE CREATED SCIENCE.
Oops, going off-course... anyway, despite that, I still consider myself a Christian and I don't think it's wrong because I don't believe in some parts because honestly... I DON'T THINK THAT EVERYBODY WHO EVER HAD A HAND IN WRITING THE BIBLE GOT WHAT THEY SAID FROM A MESSAGE FROM GOD. For one thing, God doesn't talk directly to people nearly that often. Some people were making guesses... but others were really right. I say I'm Christian because I believe in a lot of things that the religion teaches, particularly the lessons about God themselves rather than the stories. I definitely don't believe that people who aren't Christian are going to Heaven because God the JUST judges people based on how good they are.

@Rainshadow: Depends on which version of Hell. I don't think Dante's Hell would be particularly fun. But the version that says "you'll be cut off from God" doesn't seem all that different than my life now, so, I don't think it would be that bad.
