Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Awww Oh, Snap! Quiz Retro Silly Whoa Yum
Let’s get one thing straight, Lion King fans and beloved readers. Scar is a pretty stop-at-nothing kind of cat. He’s ruthless, a little power hungry, and generally not a nice lion. But he also has arguably the most impressive dialogue of any Disney character. Continue reading as we prove it:
When Mufasa visits Scar to find out why he didn’t attend Simba’s presentation, Scar responds with an exceedingly well-worded greeting: “Why! If it isn’t my big brother descending from on high to mingle with the commoners.”
This is some dignified passive aggressiveness, and we’re impressed.
Instead of the much used, “I know you are but what am I” his retort to Mufasa’s clearly superior prowess is:
“Well, as far as brains go, I got the lion’s share. But, when it comes to brute strength … I’m afraid I’m at the shallow end of the gene pool.”
That response incorporates genetics, the word brute (hello, Shakespeare), and a pun about the lion’s share.
He’s also mastered the art of spoken sarcasm. When Mufasa reminds him that he’s going to have to bow down to Simba someday, he says: “Oh, I shall practice my curtsy.”
Again with the sarcasm, again with the dignified insult.
When his nephew Simba tells him he’s going to rule the whole kingdom one day, his reaction is as follows: “Yes. Well, forgive me for not leaping for joy. Bad back, you know.”
If you put aside the horrifying circumstances surrounding the death of Mufasa (which we know is impossible to do), you are left with this epic acceptance of the throne: “Yet, out of the ashes of this tragedy, we shall rise to greet the dawning of a new era, in which lion and hyena come together, in a great and glorious future!”
Again, we do not condone the behavior that got him here. But man, that’s a well-worded speech.
And, finally, in his song of all songs, his rhyming and rhythm are unmatched. He even mixes literalism with figurativism: ♫ Yes, my teeth and ambitions are bared. Be prepared! ♫
Song lyrics are hard. Scar makes it look effortless.
