OK, I've done this before on forums, so I'm gonna let you know how it was done over at TV.Com.

A single but trusted user (hooch, bliss, daz) is chosen to be the delegate to which the users private message their votes to. Every user only has one vote and has to include all of the categories in one message. So, IE:

Cinders votes for:
Best Spot: The Fanpoppies
Best pick: How should the Fanpoppies be decided
Best user: Hooch-is-crazy

etc, etc, etc.

The delegate then tallies up all the votes and discusses with his/her other committee members before posting the results. That way, it's private, a surprise, and STILL voted for by the fans.

HOWEVER, depending on how many people are participating, this could be too big of a job for one delegate, in which case you can use all three committee members. If your user name begins with A-J, send your messages to dazl. If your user name begins with K-S, send them to hooch-is-crazy. If your user name begins with T-Z or a number, send them to bliss. Then the three committee members count up their own "region" of votes and add them up together.

It's FAR less complicated than I'm making it sound.

i think the Fanpoppies should be inclusive, so everyone has gets to participate. it wouldn't be as much fun if we just announced who the winners were without any input. although, i do like my idea of having the Lifetime Achievement Award be ultimately decided by the committee.. so that one will at least be a surprise ;)


EDIT: hmm now i'm loving Cinders' idea. i think we'd definitely have to split it up, but i'd be all for it if everyone else agrees.

ive changed my vote..i like this option- not sure if ive been around long enough to vote on all categories but some users seem to stand out :)

you don't have to vote for every category, just whatever ones you feel like :)

I like the idea of getting to vote, but I also think there should be a comitee. Like, the fans vote for the top five in a pm and then the comitee decides out of those?

I just think a lot of people might not know who to vote for, or, seeing as Fanpop is so big, might not even know much about a certain user. I'd never even heard of Dazl before joining to Users spot! lol

Anyways, theres my two cents :)

ok here's how it should go down:

the nominees should either be decided via comittee or via e-mail, but there should be more than two people on the comittee

and the actual awards should be decided by pick so the fans can vote. =]

There ARE more than two people; there's dazl, blisslikethis, and hooch-is-crazy.

You guys, I'm really likin' the private message idea. How come there are some folks who'd prefer to have it done in picks? I feel picks are anticlimactic, AND can influence a vote if a fan knows who's winning.

I like Cinders idea. Sounds fair, it does.

I dislike the pick idea. It's way more fun to have it as a complete suprise. In a pick, people can see who has voted for whomever, and this could lead to some very nasty arguments.

In mail form, it remains anonmyous, except to the committee, and we'll only tell if bribed with enough cookies.
