Patrick can be smart sometimes just when he's not aware of it he can say certain things that help Spongebob..but I mainly think Spongebob is smarter of the two.

i just think patrick is unaware of.how.smart he.is. like in wet painters he solved the problem without knowing when they were stuck in squidwards stomach he got them out.
After seeing "Patrick Smartpants" I think Patrick's smarter because apparently he can choose to be smart if he wants. I think he just chooses to be an idiot because he doesn't lose Spongebob as his friend.
