Just wondering...

Why do people say things like "I'm so scared it's not even funny" when it probably wouldn't be funny in the first place. Of course with my saying I could have been using it wrong, but out of habit, when I was looking at pictures of my favorito! actor I dicho "He's so hot, it's not even funny," only to wonder why it would be funny in the first place. tu get what I mean?
