I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Anne Hathaway in Talks for Live-Action ‘Barbie’ Pic for Sony | Variety
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Amy Schumer due to scheduling conflicts, Sony looks to have found its replacement for the upcoming live-action “Barbie” pic, with Anne Hathaway in talks for the lead role.
Australian “Fun Mom Dinner” director Alethea Jones is in talks to helm the comedy.
Studio reps said the casting is premature as scheduling arrangements have not been worked out and there is no deal as yet.
The big screen adaptation of Mattel’s iconic toy line was originally expected to start production on June 23, but Schumer’s busy schedule included a promotional tour for her new Fox comedy “Snatched,” as well as shooting for Rebecca Miller’s “She Came to Me” opposite Steve Carell.
Sony still intends to stick to its projected June 29, 2018 release date, though it’s not clear when production would start. Mattel already has merchandise and product cycles in motion, and shifting the production to accommodate Schumer would have put on a strain on other partners on the film, according to insiders.
The “Barbie” movie is said to be in the vein of “Splash,” “Enchanted” and “Big.” In it, the main character gets kicked out of Barbieland for not being perfect enough and lands in a real-world adventure.
Schumer recently did a polish of the script. It’s unknown whether the same tone will be kept for the Hathaway version.
Walter F. Parkes, Laurie MacDonald and Amy Pascal are producing the film. Richard Dickson, president and COO of Mattel, is executive producing.
Parkes and MacDonald initiated the original deal with Mattel in 2014.
While Hathaway doesn’t come from the stand-up comedian world like Schumer, she has shown a knack for comedic timing in films like “The Devil Wears Prada” and “Get Smart.” Hathaway is about to start shooting the “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” remake “Nasty Women” with Rebel Wilson and is co-starring in the “Ocean’s Eleven” spin-off “Ocean’s Eight.”

They should go with Isla Fisher from “Confessions of a Shopaholic.” Much more likeable an so funny and adorable.
But….Anne doesn’t look like Barbie at all ? I don’t know, is that the point in casting her?
Barbie as a toy represents female physical perfection, but Anne represents female physical mediocrity.
She’s not unattractive, but she’s far, far away from being Barbie.
PS: She would be good as Barbie’s boring secretary, just like in “…Prada”
I agree that Anne *usually* represents female mediocrity, but Amy Schumer *always* represents female toxicity.
Also, your first line is a statement, not a question, soooooo not sure what you mean.
Watch Anne as Catwoman in the The Dark Knight Rises and you may be inclined to think that she represents more than female mediocrity- as I have.
Charlize Theron would be wonderful, but she’s beyond a Barbie movie.
This is good. Amy was told to drop 30lbs and she refused
That would be horrible! Amy was soooo much better suited for that. If Hathaway ends up in it, no effing way will I watch it. She’s terrible.
Going from Amy Schumer to Anne Hathaway ? Complete change in tone that seems less empowering and more, well, 100% predictable. When Amy was attached I was excited about the possibilities for direction and impressed that the studios were willing to experiment with a fresh perspective on the Barbie franchise. Now they are going back to the safe route with Anne Hathaway? What a very boring disappointment. Comedic timing? Again, in the predictable she’s an “actress can read lines and follow basic instructions” way. Sony should bring on another real comedian, someone who is more in touch with what life is like out of the Hollywood bubble and can bring a certain raw, believability to the role. I’m not saying Amy was the perfect choice, but she was certainly an intereting one that could have brought something new to the franchise which otherwise seems fairly desperate to connect with today’s world. Casting Anne, or any other overly-polished/typical Hollywood actress in the role only further perpetuates the Barbie stigma it seems Mattel has been trying to distance themselves from. Don’t put Barbie back in that box.
Anne is a much better actress and Amy wouldn’t drop the fat
This makes far more sense. Schumer is incredibly unlikable.
Ummm…need some one extremely bubbly and LIKABLE. This will be iconic and a billion dollar franchise. Dove Cameron, Hillary Duff, Vanessa Hudgens….
I’d like to see Ms. Hathaway work this out to nab the lead. As the author of the article mentioned she’s got decent comedic chops and can do flat out funny as well as sarcastic wit.
I want to wish Anne Hathaway all the luck replacing Amy Schumer on becoming the newest Barbie.I can’t wait to see how the writer will develop Barbie with the new actress in the 21st Century,
Eeesh, that’s like going from the frying pan into the fire, looks-wise.
They must get Trevor Donovan to play the perfect Ken Doll!
