Jane Austen Jane Austen... Psychologist?

I feel like what sets Jane Austen apart from other writers is her sense of people. Before psychology was even a science, she pegged the hypochondriac, the hypocrite, the martyr, the abuser. She understood insecurity and arrogance. She wrote about peer pressure, societal pressure and parental pressure before those things had common names.

So what do you think? Psychologist before her time?

Yes she certainly had an incisive understanding of the foibles of those around her which informed her characters. Yet she maintained an indulgence and compassion toward them, I think, which is no small feat. I consider that a real genius in her writing.
