Kim Sunggyu may be famous for his weird, old, lethargic, and easily annoyed image. Fans even call him “grandpa” as he continuously looks tired with his life. However, did you know the true color of Sunggyu, not only as the leader of group INFINITE but also as the individual Kim Sunggyu?

The boy who came to Seoul when he was 18 years old talked about his life and career on the reality show “4 Things Show” revealing his true character.

While famous for being timid and cautious, Super Junior’s Heechul, SISTAR Bora, and Infinite Woohyun who are close to Sunggyu have different opinions about him. Woohyun said even when he is quite wary and cautious towards strangers, Sunggyu is a friendly person once he gets to know a person.

Bora also said he’s actually an energetic person. Heechul even said Sunggyu’s polite and sincere nature towards others is often mistaken as being too cautious.

“Lately I feel like people can see a different image of me. I can even make people laugh and bring smarter image during broadcast. I hope that people will see me as more approachable and not only just a funny person who doesn’t like to move,” Sunggyu said.

Talking about his past solo album, Sunggyu has a burden and regret.

“It was one that I prepared for a very long time but it was quite sudden too. I was afraid fans wont like it as they wont approve of me singing songs like that. Honestly it’s more comfortable to sing with members, as I’m afraid people won’t accept me as a solo singer. I also feel like dying every time I went up to the stage alone. Next time I have solo I want to do it slowly without any rush. The album will also need to answer the question “Why do I need to release this album” too.” He said as he reminisced his first album as a failure.

His regret might be caused by his ISTP (introversion, sensing, thinking, perception) personality. He thinks a lot and set himself high expectations which usually brings stress as he always think he’s the one who’s at fault whenever problem arises.

“I’m always afraid that fans who love me will leave me the next day. I even think they might not like me as big as today if I keep doing the same music or same action. That’s why I always think about new things to do in the future.”

Other INFINITE members know his introvert personality well. Sungyeol and Woohyun talked about how Sunggyu is always hearing and resolving different problems they had so they can keep going together until now. He also always stands out and advice them on what they should do every time there is a dispute and critics among members. Sungyeol even mentioned how Sunggyu always hides his secret, especially something that can hurt them and chooses to keep it to himself.

“It’s not me who is good as a leader, but it’s all thanks to the members who are kind and want to follow me so I’m able to hear that I’m doing a good job as a leader,” Sunggyu said.

“As for the secret, I never like to bother others with my problems or let them worry about it. It’s good that the members know that they can rely on me but I don’t want them to feel that I have to rely on them.”

About this, Super Junior Heechul sumed it up in perfect line; “Since the start Sunggyu always carries the entire burden himself; as the main vocal, the oldest hyung, and even the leader,” expressing how he admire Sunggyu as the leader of INFINITE.
