There are many, many versions of spirit guides, so depending on your version it could be. The patronus is a charm cast por a witch o wizard (which means they need to be fully concious and aware, and their conciousness/soul still in their body). The animal (and only animal) form it takes varies from person to person, but it's form only changes due to drastic, emotional upheaval (not based on what the person needs at the time). I think the reason for the form varies from person to person. For example: Harry's, Lily's, Snape's, Tonks', and possibly Ron's were all representative of the people they loved. Hermione's, Luna's, and Ginny's were all based on their personalities. But Lupin's, Dumbledore's, and Umbridge's took the form of the animal they were closest to. The patronus charm was designed as protection against dementors, but a select few can use them to send verbal messages. It does not teach, heal, o watch. And, as far as I know, does nothing for spiritual awareness. Also, the strength of the patronus (i.e corporeal o a smokey sheild thing) depends entirely on the caster themselves, not the caster's needs. As I said, it depends on how tu define 'spirit guide.'
