The villain (Cameron Monaghan) appeared to meet his end early in season two - so does this mean he won\'t grow up to be Batman\'s greatest nemesis - the Joker - after all?
"One never knows..." Sean Pertwee - who plays Alfred on the show - told Digital Spy. "But what I loved about that was the idea of the cult of the Joker, which I thought was handled perfectly."
Though many fans still suspect Jerome is a young Joker, the DC series also hinted at another possibility - that his crazed antics might inspire Joker-like behaviour in others...

"It wasn\'t a Get Out of Jail Free card - it was very well thought through," Pertwee said. "It becomes a driving force. It is the cult of the Joker - the cult of anarchy, the cult of punk rock."
returns for a third season - though Pertwee did advise that the show\'s writers are "very good at playing the long game".
"It can be very frustrating as an actor to not get there quickly - because it\'s a long process... and you want to almost run before you can walk, but they\'re constantly guiding us and you find yourself in situations that you never thought you\'d be in.
"I think that\'s an interesting thing about the show - everyone has the propensity to be good or evil. Alfred has a very dark side - he has a propensity to ultra-violence himself, and had he not found the boy [Bruce Wayne] who suffers from the same post-traumatic stress that he does...
"It\'s this constant struggle, with every single character in the show."
 season two finale airs tonight (Monday, June 13) at 10pm on Channel 5.
