The lionesses are the ones to hunt and bring back food. Zira is a good fighter. I think if she had to fight him she would win because he fights so little for his spot as alpha lion that he wouldn't be used to fighting. He himself says he was at the shallow end of the gene pool when it came to brute strength. He is more intelligent than brawny. But I can see him being a scrapper.
