I've been doing this countdown for years and Mrs. Potts has been a winner (almost) every year so *wow* it's so crazy to see someone else winning Favorite Mom! Especially since this is going to be the last time I do this countdown so it's nice to see something different for my last year doing this :)

Obvious choice. Eudora is such a supportive mother to Tiana, she's caring and concerned about Tiana's future yet doesn't force her into anything, and it's almost impossible not to like her.

I don't get why so many people pick Ariel. Of course I get she's popular as a princess, but as a mom, she's like her dad- I mean shutting your kid out for so long and forcing them into events they're not interested in... no, just no, especially when Ariel herself went through similar things. She had Melody's escape coming.

I don't really find Eudora so great. She drops hints that she thinks Tiana's narrow-minded focus on only her restaurant in life is "off," but she doesn't really impact Tiana's life in any significant way. Though I like Eudora as a character, she's very much a sidepiece.

I do think Ariel tried, but Melody is a piece of work in a kid. Melody is ungrateful and spiteful. Melody seems to think that if anything doesn't go her way, she is entitled to blow up--- and in this way, Melody is more similar to her grandfather, King Triton, than to her mother, Ariel. I wrote somewhere, an article where I compared the personalities of Melody and Elsa, and found them especially similar: both loners, both of them thinking that they don't need other's help, and both of them staunchly set on their dreams to the detriment of everyone else! I kind of feel sorry for Ariel in the end. This is why this movie is my least favorite in The Little Mermaid franchise, mostly because I feel like Melody really is one of the worst kid characters Disney has ever written.

My second choice and third choice would be Ms. Potts and all of the Fairies --- but Merryweather mostly.

As a character, Ariel. But as a mother/guardian, the fairies, Mrs. Potts and Eudora. I have to say I agree with what @wavesurf said about Melody though.

I love Ariel and I know she tried in the sequel (because how many moms search all over the ocean for their daughters?) but I prefer her character in the first movie rather than the sequels. In Return to the Sea she just seemed so OOC; keeping Melody’s mermaid heritage a secret, making her go to the dance, getting mad at her like Triton did (though at least Ariel didn’t destroy Melody’s possessions)

I’m not saying Ariel is a bad mom or anything (because she’s not, she really did her best) just that she was a victim of Disney’s “main character suddenly an overprotective parent in sequel” trend they had going at the time

I really like her a lot so she'd be my first choice but then would be Mrs. Potts. I always saw the fairies as aunts rather than a mother but they do work as guardians so I guess them too.

^I thought relatives counted as guardians, even with Aurora only thinking they were her aunts wouldn’t that have counted?

Edit: I looked it up and it looks like you can call relatives “guardians”

@BB2010: I agree with you that Disney wrote Ariel into "the over-protective parent role," which totally went against everything Ariel herself is known for. But Ariel does try to be a good parent, and very few Disney films show a parent with a lot of odds against them, actively trying without being actively mean (and I wince at Elinor in Brave because she and Merida had a piss match).
