Same reason as last time. Belle constantly complains, with absolutely no optimistic spirit whatsoever.

she's never been an optimistic kind. Finding faults in everyone and everything despite having lot of privileges.

^ Jasmine was pretty optimistic imo, at least about people - especially the whole wanting to marry for love thing no matter how many crappy suitors she got. She never gave up on Aladdin either even though he spent like 80% of the movie lying.

Belle's condescension towards other people in the town places her near Tiana in my book. Belle just mopes around and complains that she "doesn't have an adventure." Belle is NOT a "go-getter" like Ariel, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, and Rapunzel are. And then, after Belle does get an adventure in the form of a castle and a beast, she whines about her circumstances, again.

I know it's not movie-canon, but in the musical there is a song ("Home") where Belle, after being taken captive by the Beast, shows a belief that her fortunes may change. Plus, I don't remember any pessimistic moments (besides saying that the Beast's death is her fault), while Mulan has that scene in the snow where she is at her lowest, and also "Reflection," which is basically a song about how she'll never meet her parents's/society's expectations of her even though she wants to.

@unholynoise: I disagree. Jasmine wasn't optimistic about Aladdin at all. Even before meeting him as Prince Ali, she wanted him to go away. She wasn't even giving him a chance to speak his mind. She never wanted to give arranged marriage a shot at all.
@wavesurf: Belle isn't supposed to be a go-getter at all, nowhere in the movie it is suggested even. A lot of people dreams about doing things but doesn't mean they leave everything behind for the sake of it. That's called rationality and balance. She didn't get her adventure like Ariel or Mulan or Jasmine or Pocahontas on her own terms. She was forced to be a prisoner, that's NOT adventurous. But she did learn to see it as an adventure eventually, when she went out exploring the castle after an initial natural reaction when someone is taken captive.

^ Absolutely agreed. I hope people recognize that this countdown is in reference to the subject related in the title, optimism, not favorite princess or something like that since there are no comments for Rapunzel though she is tied for the most votes? And really, she is the epitome of optimism so it makes me believe now that there is rigging in this contest and it has become corrupted. Objectively, there's no way Rapunzel could be out this early, whether one likes her or not.

I think it's a close call here between Mulan and Jasmine. Mulan often doubts herself and looks at things from a more realistic rather than positive point of view. Jasmine is actually pretty optimistic about marrying someone she loves and being able to sneak out and make it okay (although part of that is her confidence). She is not very optimistic towards others though whereas Mulan is optimistic about defeating the Huns even when things don't look so good.

Belle is one of the more optimistic princesses left. While she may be understood in her town, it is because she chooses to educate herself, read books and dreams of traveling rather than settling down, getting married and dreaming of starting a big family. She is not pessimistic about a family, she just hasn't met someone worth starting a family with. I take this as very optimistic that she will find someone worth it eventually. Furthermore, she is very optimistic about her father's inventions and encouraging him not to lose hope in himself.
