I think the fact that he thought she was a man speaks for itself. Not exactly the greatest first encounter, imo.

quishy11 picked Snow White and the Prince; Snow White's castillo:
It was abrupt. I mean lots of them were abrupt for the characters, but the audience knew what was going on. It's not that I don't like it, it's just that I like the other ones better. It's similar to the way Aurora and Prince Philip met, but I love that scene so much. When Snow White and her prince met, it was slightly creepy. Just slightly though, because I liked it anyway. :)

The way Mulan and Shang met wasn't good for them, but at least it was funny for us. So that would be my second choice. It's kinda tied actually. Same with Rapunzel and Flynn.

It just too cliche, they meet and fall in love each other, similiar like Cinderella and Aurora with their princes. But Cinderella and Aurora's encounters are more romantic and sweet than Snow White's.

^ Cliche means overused. It was the first Disney Princess movie, any DP movies doing similar were cliche.

I love Mulan and Shang's. Cinderella and Charming don't really speak to each other or find out really who they are.

Anyway, why is this and Rapunzel's still here? Not cute, not romantic (till she hits him anyway), and no chemistry since Mulan is trying to be a guy.

First of all it's funny, but then it's horrible. Knocking your man numerous times? UGH ><

It's so creepy! I don't like "I'm Wishing" as a song, and I hate how the prince just jumps over her fence and starts doing a bad impression of Romeo Montague.

Though it's sweet, it's just very sudden. I find the same suddenness in the scene with Cindy and Charming at the ball, and Aurora and Phillip. They're all sweet, but some kind of "substance" is missing in the first encounter. I kind of like movies where the prince and princess take more time to acknowledge their feelings. For example, Ariel takes a while to admit that she is in love; she only says so after daydreaming about Eric for several days, and when she is actively accused by her father. Eric does not admit any romantic feelings towards Ariel until he finds out that she's the one who saved his life, and after he knows who Ursula is. Mulan is not in love with Shang, and only develops a slight crush on him, after she has been in the army for months. Shang does not admit his feelings until the end of the movie. As for Rapunzel and Flynn, neither really liked each other until they started talking/sharing their troubles/vulnerabilities with one another. I like scenes where people are not really in love at first sight. When the first encounter happens, the princess or prince doesn't necessarily have to be mean and angry ( as was the case with Tiana and Naveen, and Anna and Kristoff). But they don't have to be suddenly in love at the drop of a hat, either.

She could've caused him a concussion! The first time she hit him I understand, but the second time was really uncalled for.

Aw man I love Snow White's scene! Personally I tend to prefer the ones that show some kind of chemistry or attraction right from the start.

Mulan's first meeting with Shang shows more conflict than anything. It's amusing, but I don't find it memorable and it doesn't really establish a connection between the characters right from the start. For similar reasons I'm not really fond of Rapunzel and Flynn's first meeting either, but at least it's a bit more special as it shows Rapunzel's first experience of meeting someone from the outside world.

why do people keep saying cliche? As someone already pointed out, cliche means overused. Something can't be overused when it's new!

I do like the scene but I like the others more! Besides, Mulan should have already have a boy name in mind. Shang barked at her three times to tell him her name, and she took so long to answer thanks to Mushu's silliness. She could have been discovered right there!
