I'm conflicted. I can't decide between BatB and SW. But for now I think I'll go with BatB because of it's glaring inconsistencies and rushed look. might change my answer though.

I love the animation but I just think the others are better.
Snow White's animation was very ahead of its time and that's impressive, the detail in Sleeping Beauty's animation is marvelous, the way they combined hand-drawn animation with computer technology for some scenes in Beauty and the Beast is wonderful and Tangled has some gorgeous scenes so... Pocahontas.

Even when I was little, I was so impressed with the animation, every scene I couldn't take my eyes off of the screen. But I believe it's Snow White's time to go, it shouldn't be put in too much advantage for being the first animated movie.

It's not impressive at all. How is it still here?

The animation is so rushed and inconsistent, and there was nothing really revolutionary about this animation anyway, everything in it had already been done before, even the scale had already been done before. The only thing was it had the first scene with a computer, and computer had already been incorporated into animation before that (though the animation on the skirt in that scene is wonderful- I notice strange things.) While we shouldn't give Snow White TOO much credit for being the first, it was still revolutionary in a way Beauty and the Beast was not. Also, that transformation scene was INCREDIBLE, the animation in that really was impressive- and it was done entirely by hand, without ANY use of computer.

Out of the remaining options, definitely Tangled. It has gorgeous animation, but it just cannot compare to the rest of them. Snow White and Sleeping Beauty have breathtaking hand-drawn forest and castle scenes. In BatB there are also gorgeous forest scenes (especially the first scene in the prologue), and there is also the animation during Belle Reprise, the animation during Beauty and the Beast and the final 5 minutes of the movie. As for Pocahontas, it just has so many gorgeous landscapes and views.

I might change my mind though....I'm between BatB, SW and Pocahontas. The first two are the more revolutionary movies, but Pocahontas is more flawlessly animated. And yeah, I don't think that we should give SW tooo much credit just because it was the first one either, but most of the animation Snafu's in Snow White are there, because they honestly couldn't do it better at this point. BatB on the other hand shouldn't have those mistakes...and the list is really, really long. Belle even looses her apron at one point (honestly, how can you forget that) for a brief moment. Some things one might only notice upon second or third viewing, like the fact that the door to Belle's house keeps opening in different directions, but things like the duck getting hit by an arrow and then we see Gaston with a gun...this stuff is really really obvious. So, I go for BatB for now...might change my mind, though.
@rhythmicmagic BatB was the first movie in which they used CAPS to the full advantage, especially for the Ballroom scene. You just don't have this kind of camera angles and movement in older animated movies.

This time in my opinion SW should go although I do entirely agree with everyone's comments in regards to BatB and Pocahontas (I'll have to think before choosing which one to vote against next time). SW was definitely ahead of it's time, however, we are still judging the animation based on modern standards hence the newer movies being included. If the pick solely focused on the classic movies's animation (the first three princess movies) then SW would be an objective winner by a long shot and with no contest. However, the animation in the movie is evidently less revolutionary (and yes, I do take this aspect in consideration seeing as the previously eliminated movies were stronger than SW in terms of general animation but didn't hold a candle to the effortful work put into the making of them as opposed to Snow White which was truly and undoubtedly a record champion of it's time) and challenging than in the remaining ones. Tangled invented a whole new dimention for Disney animation and CGI overall and is a remarkable and significant milestone for the studio; BatB did take immense and risky challenges as well and succeeded considering it's one of the most visually stunning and consistently (no front plan being rich and well developed at the expence of the background, etc, because the whole picture overall is detailed and incredibly layered) animated movies even judging by today's standards and as for the mistakes/flaws they have more to do with plot holes rather than with animation process. Pocahontas also set a standard for future movies produced by the company. Sleeping Beauty's animation might not be as challenging as Snow White's and as I mentioned above had it only been a competition strictly limited to the classics I would go with SW without a second thought, but taking multiple factors in consideration and the presence of other movies, I have to put Sleeping Beauty above SW due to it being more of an acievement. Disney company didn't have much of an opportunity to elaborate with Cinderella since the creativity of the animators was largely limited by financial restrictions, but Sleeping Beauty came off as everything that was impressive and visually stunning about Snow White improved and developed much further.

Tangled's animation doesn't impress me the way Up does. The animation of Rapunzel mopping her tower in "When Will My Life Begin" especially degrades this movie. The bubbles look silly. Besides her hair is not well-drawn, only long and long and long but flat hair....

^ I think it's pretty much an objective fact that Rapunzel's hair animation was revolutionary and challenging considering the dimentions and layers of her hair structure as well as the way you can clearly see how the strands interacting with one another as the wind blows or as she touches her hair to remove some of it from her face, etc. UP didn't have any of it in animation regard.

Especially since the software for Rapunzel's hair was created especially for this movie...it's the main reason Tangled was such an expensive movie to make.

Simply because Belle is incosistenly drawn throughout the whole movie, in some scnes she looks good, but in others she looks almost ugly

I agree with everyone who voted for Tangled. For a 2010 movie, the animation is not as impressive as other 3D animation.

Very hard to choose between BatB and Snow White. But at least in Snow White I find myself noticing little details that I really think adds to the pleasure of watching it (like the carving of the magic mirror and Snow White's coffin). Beauty and the Beast has very good animation, but there's nothing about it that really wows me.

As for the other three, I think they have the most impressive animation and I'm glad that they're still here. Pocahontas has gorgeous landscapes, and it has used colour really well to set up the atmosphere in each scene. Sleeping Beauty has some of the most beautiful backgrounds I have ever seen, and the whole movie is so graceful. I watched Tangled again the other day, and I have to say that its animation is beautiful and absolutely flawless, it may be CGI but it has taken full advantage of the medium to produce an outstanding result.
