His face is familiar to millions of youngsters thanks to his starring role in teatime fantasy drama Merlin.

But Colin Morgan’s latest part in BBC2’s superbly dark thriller The Fall should earn the actor a much more adult audience.

For the past three weeks nearly four million of us have been glued to the Belfast-set second series, following every gripping twist and turn as murderer Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan) stays one step ahead of detective Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson).

Armagh-born Colin joins the team as charismatic young new recruit DS Tom Anderson.

“Tom’s brought on board as things are hotting up because he’s intelligent and could be an asset,” explains Colin, 28.

“As far as he’s concerned, working with Stella Gibson is a huge privilege – so there’s a lot for him to learn.”

“You’ll have to wait and see, but we’ve had some great ‘close encounter’ scenes.

“I was a massive fan of the first series, so the chance to be involved was really exciting.

"And the fact that it was back home was good for a boy from Belfast!”
