'Alvin And The Chipmunks 4' Cast, Plot: Bella Thorne Joins 'Road Chip' Movie Sequel, First Story Details Revealed

(Photo : Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images, 20th Century Fox) Bella Thorne has been cast in "Alvin and the Chipmunks 4: Road Chip." Filming begins on the family sequel and new plot details have emerged in advance of the movie\'s Christmas 2015 release date.

The fourth installment in the big-screen "Alvin and the Chipmunks" franchise, this one titled "Road Chip," is currently filming. Now that production is underway, brand new plot and cast details have just been announced.

Deadline reports that actress Bella Thorne ("Blended," "The DUFF," "Shake It Up!") has nabbed a supporting role in the family sequel. She\'ll play an onscreen character in the animated/live-action hybrid. There haven\'t been many details revealed about the role, except that her name will be Sarah.

The first plot details about "Alvin and the Chipmunks 4" have also been revealed:

"Through a series of misunderstandings, Alvin, Simon and Theodore come to believe that Dave is going to propose to his new girlfriend in New York City... and dump them. They have three days to get to him and stop the proposal, saving themselves not only from losing Dave but possibly from gaining a terrible stepbrother."

The returning voice cast includes Justin Long as Alvin, Matthew Gray Gubler as Simon and Jesse McCartney as Theodore. Jason Lee will also return as Dave, the movie\'s lead human character.

"Alvin and the Chipmunks 4" is being directed by Walt Becker ("Wild Hogs") from a script by Randi Mayem Singer ("Mrs. Doubtfire," "Tooth Fairy").

It\'s already been nearly four years since "Alvin 3" hit theaters in 2011, but the chipmunks will return this Christmas, as "Road Chip" is set for a December 23rd, 2015 release date.
