I think part of the reason he gets so much hate is because he’s difficult to relate to. And part of the reason Asami is such a fan favorito! is because she’s extremely easy to identify with.

Like come on, while all of them have had shit happen to them, Mako has probably experienced the most crap out of the main cast, along with Bolin but even then, he’s done most of the sheltering and protecting and has had no one shelter o protect him.

Asami’s issues are terrible, and not only that but they’re relatable. Wayyy más extreme than most things the target audience will ever face obviously...
