I have to say, I do actually feel worse when bad things happen to girls. My favorite male characters are usually the badass anti hero types, or moral grey area characters anyway. So when they die, I don't really feel sad because there tough and it just makes me respect them even more. I usually only feel bad if a guy dies and leaves a girl behind, and then I still usually feel worse for the girl. I know that might sound bad, but I just can't help how I feel. I guess I just feel more protective of women.

I don't feel sympathetic about any gender, it depends on what is happening with that person.

Gender doesn't change how i feel at all when a character dies, there still a person who had a life. It just depends on how much iv become attached or taking a liking for the character that affects how bad ill feel when they die.

A person is a person to me,the gender doesn't affect anything for me and it depends on what is happening or what has happened to that person.

I usually cry more if it's one of my favorite characters, but I'll cry with all characters doesn't matter.

I kind of feel like a douche for admitting this, especially when so many people picked the politically correct answer.

^ You're no longer alone. My main two reason for picking this are that I can relate more and because the only times I cry over the death of fictional characters is when they are my favorite characters. And my favorites tend to be female. Now in real life I'd feel equally as bad for both genders.

It depends mostly on how the death is carried out. If the death is quick and chaotic with not much time to comprehend (such as L's death), I cannot cry despite who the character is. If the death is slow, sad, and dramatic: for example, perhaps it shows flashbacks of memories with this character, or it shows this character reflecting on mistakes they have made, or other things. For example, when Light died, I bawled, despite that I hated his character throughout and wanted him to loose. It was just done so sadly. But, it's not just males. I also cried when Nagisa Furukawa died.
