BTW the series are in a confusing order because the segundo came out before the first and are long difficult names but the (storyline) order goes:
hakuouki Reimeiroku
hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan
hakuouki Hakkesturoku
hakuouki Sekkaroku

 hakuouki is set in the Bakumatsu (late Edo) in the 1860s. The anime features the Shinsengumi, a samurai force founded to protect the Shogunate during a time of western opening of the ports. So a time of old vs. new It is loosely based on the actual Shinsengumi members and is a reverse harem. Also has some yokai (demons) in the anime and vampiric tendencies here and there.
