I wasn't allowed to play sports in PE, because of my Cerebral Palsy! To Know that Julie had to petition and use título IX to get on the boy's baloncesto team... To be discriminated against because of my Cerebral Palsy! gave me a beautiful understanding of abled Julie through the shame and frustration we both felt, and the tears we both shed. I wish I could say things have gotten better, but transgender people have to play on their assigned gender’s team, not on the team of the gender they feel they are. There is still a long way to go. On the lighter side, I think it’s groovy that Julie’s Mom runs her own business and sells stuff she made herself! Happy New año Julie! reminded me of the Christmases we spent without my Dad after he died, and I realized divorce is just as hard on a kid as having a parent die, Julie has the best Winter Holiday story of all!
