Chapter Four
Gracie popped the tap of a can of Sprite and settled back on her perca against the shop’s counter. Nate’s long legs peeked out from underneath his Jeep.
“ Hand me that wrench, please.” he called. Gracie absentmindedly plunked the wrench in his hand.
“ Ouch.” Nate yelped.
“ Sorry.” Gracie apologized.
“ What’s wrong, Grace?” Nate’s face emerged from under the Jeep, dirt smudges looking adorable on his face. Gracie grinned at the sight of him, then sobered at what he had said.
“ Nothing really. Just nervous about the mostrar I guess.” She dicho slowly. Camie had come and rode with her, then left, leaving Gracie to hang out with Nate.
“ You’ll do great.” Nate smiled softly at her.
Gracie stared at him until his tilted his head, green eyes turning dark.
“ Why are tu so worried? You’ve placed at the parte superior, arriba of your class at the last four shows you’ve gone to.” Nate stood slowly and walked the few paces over to her.
Gracie sighed and leaned back on her elbows.
“ Its just the pressure. I’ve never ridden in front of scouts that are this important before.” Gracie stared up at him. He as a good half a foot taller than her. He was staring back down at her, and he stepped closer. His hands landed on the counter on either side of her hips.
“ You’re gonna do fine, Gracie. You’ll knock their socks off.” Nate smiled and leaned against his hands, propped on the counter, bringing him even closer.
“Thanks, Nate.” Gracie smiled and reached up, wiping one of the smudges of dirt.
“ I’m just telling the truth.” He replied softly, leaning into her fingers. Gracie blushed and her fingers trailed across his jaw line.
“ Well lets hope so.” Gracie said, o at least she thought she dicho it. Nate’s lips were getting close. And then they brushed over hers once. Twice. And then a third time. Gracie felt her stomach clench, and her corazón start pounding. She had never kissed anyone before. She had no idea how this worked. But Nate’s lips were warm and soft, and she like how they just softly touched hers, then slid off.
Her eyes were still closed when she realized that he wasn’t besar her anymore. Her eyes flew open to see him looking at her, his green eyes a dark forest green.
“ What’s wrong?” Gracie whispered, dreading she had done something.
“ Nothing. Just making sure tu were ok.” Nate murmured.
“ Why wouldn’t I be?” Gracie asked, her eyes growing wide as Nate’s mouth came close again.
“ I seem to remember tu dicho you’ve never kissed anyone before.” Nate recalled, amusement evident in his voice.
Gracie blushed darker, she could feel her face getting hot.
“ I don’t remember that.” She fibbed.
“ tu weren’t besar me back.” Nate chuckled.
“ Fine! Maybe I don’t know how to!” Gracie snapped, her temper erupting. She shoved at one of his arms, trying to get out of the cage his arms formed.
“We can fix that.” His voice was so soft Gracie wondered if she had made it up. She stilled.
“ What?”
“ tu heard me.” Nate smiled. His lips feathered across hers. Gracie smiled against his lips.
“Ok. I might be up to that.”
He grinned and pulled up so there was a inch o so between them.
“Good.”
His lips touched hers and paused, almost as if he was waiting. He finally pulled away.
“ This is how this is going to work. tu do what ever tu want to do to me. Consider it tu hands on lesson.”
“What?” Gracie choked.
“ tu heard me. kiss me like tu want to.”
“ I-I-I don’t know how.” Gracie stammered.
Nate just stared down at her, one eyebrow raised.
She released her breath in a hiss.
She slowly ran her hands up the front of his gray tee shirt, strained tight over corded muscles. She grabbed the front of his camisa, camiseta and pulled him down to her level. She pressed her lips against his, softly brushing them across his lips like he had done hers. Her corazón kicked up a notch when his lips starting moving. One of her lips got gently nibbled and she wanted to giggle. But instead she inhaled and somehow one of Nate’s lips were in between hers. She froze, unsure what to do. Nate’s tongue eased into her mouth, and then slid back out again. Gracie’s eyes flew opened, but noticed that his was still closed. She shut hers again, and pressed her lips harder against his. Soon she was pretty sure they were making out. Whatever it was, she decided it was amazing.
Nate’s warm hands slid down her sides and lifted her to sit on the counter. She ran her fingers through his hair, loving the feel of his soft hair curling around her fingers. She hooked one leg around him, and pulled him closer, tilting her head to get closer.
“Uh um.” Someone clearing their throat made Gracie’s corazón stop.
Gracie jumped and almost slid off the counter. Nate caught her just in time.
“Dad!” Gracie ran a trembling hand over her mouth and straightened her shirt.
“ Your mom says to come on up to the house.” He dicho gruffly, fighting a smile.
“ Ok!” Gracie hopped off the counter, and ran past her dad, hoping her face wasn’t crimson. She couldn’t risk looking at Nate. She would see him tomorrow. And she couldn’t wait.
