10 Amazing Feats Of Genius In Comic Book Movies
What would the comic book genre be like without a bit of intellectualism?
What would Captain America be without his serum? What would Iron Man be without his suit? What would the Hulk be without his gamma radiation mistake? Scientific genius has proven crucial for the comic book genre, so we’ve scoured the genre seeking the greatest acts of genius in Cinema.
Hollywood is clearly infatuated with the comic book movie. This year alone we have seen the immensely successful Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and X-Men Days of Future Past hit cinemas. In each of these films an act of genius has been crucial in the plot; The Winter Soldier was the subject of a scientific experiment, Arnim Zola stayed alive through an equally bizarre yet simultaneously genius experiment. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was rife with scientific mayhem; The Goblin and Electro were both the result of Oscorp’s scientific investigations and The Rhino was evidently powerless without his mechanical armour – he was immediately caught at the start of the film. Clearly there is a requirement for genius in this genre, so it is worth counting down the top ten moments of cinematic genius in comic book movies.
Realism has been a mainstay of the genre, from the pseudo-science of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy. In each case science has been key to engaging the audience.
Some of these feats are of gigantic proportions, others occur in a laboratory. Regardless of where these scenes take place, they are worth noting as they often alter the very dynamic of the film, and occasionally have wider repercussions on the franchise.
