Is fan fiction beneficial o damaging?

Well, I write a lot of fan fiction, but over the years it has helped me improve my escritura and it has spawned ideas for original stories of my own. But I want to get some of your opinions. Do tu think fan fiction is for people who have absolutely no creative talent? o do tu think it can improve one's writing?

Just wondering.

I've been escritura fan fiction since I was twelve. My stories began as terribly developed plots and quite OOC, and basically, it was all over the place. But it was fan fiction that taught me that it was important to plan ahead. The first outline I ever did was for a fan fiction, before I started doing it for my real fiction. It's an excellent stepping stone for plot development and themes as well, because tu don't have to worry about setting o characters. It's already there for you. I've learned how to write thematically, and to build tension and write interesting plots through fan fiction.

fan fiction gets a bad rap. They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If I ever wrote a book o made a movie, I'd be flattered if people wanted to write fan fiction about it. The stereotype is often erotic fan fiction, mary sues, and poor writing. But to be honest, those can be found in any genre of fiction, and often is. The only reason it's noticed in fan fiction is because people are más likely to READ a fan fiction por a thirteen-year-old than a real short story por a thirteen-year-old.

To say that it's "cheap" and "uncreative" is to generalize an entire genre. There are really intricate and descriptive fan fictions out there that are fascinating. It can also turn into a career-- have tu heard of TV shows having novels? They're basically published fan fiction.

I personally dont like fanfiction, but i think its because when i write, my characters are so real to me. I cant just add onto anothers story. Thats just my opinion though. If your u like me and tu CAN add on to anothers story, i think that would help build up your escritura skills

Its a little evil. I think it encourages some people to think that the original story is theirs. Also people can get carried away with their fanfiction.

I disagree. I write fanfiction, but I don't think I own Tim Burton's characters.

I think that fan fiction can be a stepping stone to improving one's own escritura but tu can't get obsessed with a story that isn't yours. tu have to remember to keep it under control and in perspective.

I write lots too, but not as much as I used to. I think it can help your writing, but as long as it's realistic. Some people go overboard and make some things happen that would never. I suppose it helps tu get out what tu want to happen, but in a way it's a bit rediculous. I geuss it's ok once in a while.

I have memory problems and I find it easier to keep track of other people's characters than my own. So yes, fanfiction is fine. I write it. It is a sort of "stepping stone". It has helped me improve my escritura alot.

For people who think that fanfiction is an insult to the original work, I say "No it isn't." It is a good thing to have your work looked upon so highly that someone wants the story to go on. Also, it does not ruin the original work for other people. If tu want to read it, the original, untainted copy is out there for anyone to read/see/hear/whatever.

For people who think fanfiction is uncreative, I suggest tu write fanfiction. Yeah, I want tu to go write it yourself. If tu know enough about someone else's story that tu can write your own could-plausibly-happen spinoff, then tu have some serious strengths in finding facts. It takes just as much brainpower to use someone else's characters as it does to use your own. I would know.

I dont write fan fiction at all because I think it is uncreative and cheapening the original product.. all my stories I write are either inspired o completely written on the spot. I never plan my escritura either.. it all just kind of flows when I get into it.

I disagree.Fan fiction is not uncreative as tu say, because even though the writer is basing a story off of a canon character, the writer is creating their own characters, universes, situations, etc. How is it cheapening the original "product"?Fan fiction is basically an homage to a work, and tu can easily go to a bookstore and buy the "orginal product,"and avoid fan fiction.I have read some horrible, aboslutely out there fics, and I have read amazing and well thought out ones.Writing is writing.

Personally, I think fan-fiction is a great way for writers to enter the world of writing. They get to use something they like and are familiar with to create stories. Usually, if the writer is a serious one, they'll branch out and create their own original stories. I've had many instances where I'll be escritura a fan-fiction story and will get tons of ideas for original stories. I have TONS of OCs in my fan-fics now; I can't help it. lol
Bottom line, I think fan-fiction can be good o bad, depending on the writer.

I`m escritura a fiction outside of FF.net and it`s a crime/drama/friendship and a little romance but I do think FF has helped me alot! Also watching crime shows since I was 9 probably helped too!:)

I think fanfictioning is perfectly okay, I do it all the time. I started out escritura my own original stories, and I still do, but fanfiction started out as just another way of mostrando my appreciation for a certain mostrar I was really into. But now, it's almost a way of life for me, and if I ever get stuck on my original stories, I can always just switch to a fanfiction and it just flows from there. I know I don't own any of the characters, and it's actually pretty nice to be able to just build on a plot dado to tu already. For me, it gives me a lot más chances for creativity, and so, fanfictioning has made my original stories a lot better.

I think if tu like escritura fanfiction then thats great cuz i feel it helps opens up your imagination and creative writing...while not going overboard as some do...but if tu dont like fanfic well thats completely up to if tu wanna remain faithful to the original series..though i believe that tu still can remain faithful to the original series while keeping the essence of the story, characters and etc...true in your fanfiction...fanfictin to me: is what could HAVE happened, like different forks in a road...that is completely believeable..that make tu think "yeah i buy that...that could have oscilación that way"...
