There was a period during the late 1800s when the United States began to help industrialize Japan. This was the period when the Old ways(Samurai) began to fight back against the heavily armed American firepower and the Japanese Nationalists. It was the setting of the Tom Cruise film; The Last Samurai. Now I'm just thinking this could be a compromise between the Western and Feudal Japan choices.
