What's Going On with Cat?? (And some Jade)

Ok, it's time for me to rant again. Sorry, I couldn't hold this one back any longer. Esspecially not with 'A navidad Tori'.

At first, I thought most of this was a figment of my imagination, but it's getting más blunt and starting to get on my nerves.

I'll start off with this weird thing that's been going on with Cat/Jade. Now, I'm going to be bias because I'm a Cade shipper but regardless of that I feel this needs to be said. Jade is being really mean to Cat lately, and it ticks me off.

For the complete season one we had about one insult between the two of them, and that wasn't even that bad. Jade was actually kind of nice, o ignored Cat completely. Season two comes along, and we see their relationship get a little closer (Well actually it started with Freak the Freak Out but whatever). On a kind of odd note though, Jade started to kind of baby Cat. The time she gave her a coloring book was funny, the time she pushed cereal in her mouth was funny AND cute, the time she gave her the keys to play with that pushing it (I'll come back to that later).

But the last two episodes, the writers have totally abolished that relationship of friendship, and just written Jade to be mean to Cat. She's screaming at her a LOT now. I looked at TOCS and was like 'ok Cat you're torturing Jade with the float theme and it's ok that she's touchy' but then out of the blue she screams at Cat again, for almost nothing in ACT when she's talking about her brother. It bothers me because no one can have absolutly no friends. Sure, she has Beck, and she's being nicer to Tori but I think it's going to be really stupid if the mostrar just cancels a clear friendship that has history and substance for the sake of a few jokes that aren't funny. There has to be SOME serious parts on Victorious, otherwise nothing will make and sense.

Ok, Cade ranting out of the way, I've got to ask if it's just me o if everyone else thinks they are writting Cat out to be a moron lately. It was right after Locked Up that I noticed they started to change her. más tan, and almost stupid. I understand her being ditzy, it's hillarious but I'm having a hard time laughing at them making Cat out to just be a complete idiot. Her character was actually fairly smart, just airheaded. Now she's doing things like eating keys and obnoxiously offering people comida in a weird not-Cat voice. Maybe I'm going nuts, but I swear she seems different to me. Idk why they're trying to change the dynamic of one of the most liked characters on the show. Idk, those are just two things involving Cat that are really bothering me lately. Especially Jade being mean to her, I thought it was interesting that Jade was nicer to Cat, giving her depth of character. I'm so old x.x things like this should NOT be thought through so thoroughly.

mjkingofpop1 I agree there. Why did they make Cat a complete idiot? I like Cat. It makes me upset on how they did that. Why can't they keep Cat the way she was in Season 1?? or in Season 2?? She was perfectly fine the way she was...why can't they respect that?

MJsValentine Ooh, don't mind your rants. I love reading them! I totally agree with you on the Cat bit. Cat in season one and Cat in season two/three seem to be two different characters. I thought she was really cute and funny in seasone one, but now she just makes me want to take my head and throw it against the wall. It isn't funny anymore. And I really hate that fact that they are turning Jade into a total "beast". I always valued Cat and Jade's relationship very highly, because they seemed to be so close together. I'm pretty sure they are. I hate how the writers of the show try to tear two of the most unique characters on the show apart.

LLCoyote Ok, so I'm not crazy. I thought it just might be me! OH and I forgot to mention Jade saying she wanted to smack Cat, as well as yelling at her in ACT. MJsValentine, I always thought they were close too! I loved Cat Crashes Jade's House XD I thought it was adorable. It's so weird to see what the writers are doing. I don't get them sometimes x.x

MJsValentine Yeah, the writers on the show are very weird indeed. I've noticed how "moronic" characters are trending a lot on Nickelodeon shows (live-action, cartoon and CGI) lately. But honestly, nobody really laughs at them anymore. I'm pretty sure that many people are tired of seing "stupid" characters being part of the main ones. And I suppose, the writers on the show think that it's "funny" to make Jade look like a demon, because apparently tweens and pre-teens like seeing how hot-tempered characters let their frustration out on "weaker" characters. It's a shame actually. I think that all characters on the show have potential. Sadly, then show is most of the time about Tori and the other characters are basically standing there like a cardboard figure in a shop. And when they are given a somewhat decent screen time, their characters get ruined and toren apart.

xDark_Angelx Oh, darn it! I actually was writing my own rant about Cat's recent ditziness. Well, then I'm just glad I'm not alone on that part. :D I mean, this has really made me want to kick Dan Schneider. Her giggles and absentmindedness have really gotten out of hand. I use to like her, but why is Dan making her such a freakin' idiot? Ariana (or Cat, too, I guess) is so much better than that. They seem to really be pushing these character's personalities-not just Cat's, but Jade's, like you said. They're totally making her a demon, which I do not think is cool. And they must find it a good thing-somehow, I don't know how. But I do not like it. I wish they were back to how they were in the beginning of the show. Then again, that is what is said about plenty of shows...

xoPixie-Popxo I'm a HUGE fan of giant rants, especially on this club. Please keep writing more. I totally agree. I hate how Cat is, er, different. She's just not the same old cute and giggly Cat anymore. Now she's just an idiotic side character. She seriously doesn't have any story lines! And when she does, they're all stupid! Sorry I sounded a bit crazy. XP

xDark_Angelx ^^Exactly. Does anyone remember "Jade Gets Crushed," when all Cat did in that episode was get Jupiter Boots, jump across everywhere, say maybe a few lines, and giggle constantly? My goodness, that is by far the worst thing they could do for her. It's so pointless. I kind of wanted to beat up Cat at that point. And when Andre said, "Not Cat," when he had to choose another girl to help with his song, that was part of what made me mad about her part in the episode. I love both Elizabeth's and Ariana's singing, but the stupidity Cat provided in that episode made her pushed aside for a choice. Andre did not even think much of her to choose because she's so weird in that episode! I mean, seriously? :/

MJsValentine ^ I remember that episode. The only good thing about it, was the fact that Liz got to sing, other than that, it was rubbish. And I wanted to slap Andre a few times during that episode. From a musician's point of view, would it matter if the singer is sane or a total nutcase? I mean, as long they are talented and good at what they are doing, I don't think it should matter. [Look at today's music industry, you can't sell me that the biggest artists out there are 100% sane]. And in a way, they put Ariana's/Cat's talent a little down. Over all, I thought season two was really dissapointing. Does any one remember how Cat was recieving calls from 'NorthStar', an emergency help line for people that have been in car accidents, in the 'Beggin' on Your Kneess' episode? She actually thought that she was helping and theoretically speaking, people died because of her. And she was in this bubbly mood, every time she recieved a call. Without knowing what she's actually doing. Not cool.

LLCoyote Jade Gets Crushed is a sensitive subject for me XDDD I can rant for hours about how angry that episode made me. Surprisingly though, Cat wasn't what upset me most now that I think about it though her part was poorly written (I was so mad at Andre that episode over Jade that I couldn't think of Cat XD). I can see what you mean by Andre' saying that but in his defense I don't think it was about Cat being nuts as much as it is Cat being distracted and him not wanting to deal with that right now. The writers had to have something to FORCE him to work with Jade because otherwise, let's face it, Jade is everyone's last go to. (Now THAT makes me mad!)But I don't think Andre meant it as a slam against Cat, if you remember HE couldn't even get focused enough to write his own song. Cat wouldn't have helped that situation. And Beggin on Your Knees omg Cat scared me in that episode. Having no regard for human life isn't funny to me... it's freaky. You know what? While I'm on the subject IloveDxC brought up Rex Dies and Cat's part really kind of disturbed me there too. Well, more so her friends. Jade gets her sent to the mental ward and no one even looks for her. "Hey... Where's Cat?" Is all Tori says about it. Wow... those are some crappy friends. Who knows how she finally got out. I didn't think season two was that bad, it had it's really bad moments but for the most part what bothered me was them changing Cat a lot and Jade a little bit. I still love them, but sometimes I want to jump off a building when Cat does that obnoxious low toned laugh...

IloveDxC Just watched A Christmas Tori it was funny. But when Jade said slapping Red Heads I was laughing but confused 2. I think Jade h8s Cat now.

justgrac one time I looked at the pilot ep and looked at the latest ep cats voive went from a little high and kinda didsey to meltaly stupid come on dan yaou brought us the amanda show and drake and josh zoey 101 but now this im niot khappy

LLCoyote Lol I don't like her 'lower voice' you're right... it sounds a little... you know. But I do have to say either I'm getting way too used to it (which is sad but probably the most likely answer) or she toned it down that last episode. I actually thought Jade was being the dumb one. Who touches something THAT expensive?! XD What evers.

emilyebriection I'm mostly sticking to fanfiction at this point. The show itself is slaughtering the characters we love the most.

StukoShipper101 I kinda hate Cat ever since she started being dumb (I hate dumb people sometimes). I mean, she always scared of things that aren't supposed to be scared of. I remember in "The Ping Pong Team" when Tori wanted to throw ping pong to Cat. It was so annoying how she was like: "Ah!". That pissed me off. :P

101musastella ^ Lolz, I wrote this comment when I had that account. Yeah, I re-read this and noticed it really is funny, dumb people annoy me (especially in TV shows). Yeah, I only like two characters which tend to act dumb. I like Cat, but not much ever since in season two. Like? Seriously? The Blonde Squad–did she really think she's cute because of that wig? In Victori-Yes, Sikowitz challenged them to say "Yes" all day, but the pajelewhoocos owned by her and Robbie (however you spell pajelewhoocos) was said "Yes". They could lie, they can keep secrets. And she laughed when Robbie said "We can snoodle". [b]Not[/b] funny -_-'

glelsey I noticed stereotypes becoming much stronger as the series progressed. Cat was originally this unapologetically optimistic character who had random little outbursts of anger or stress, then got over it and would be happy and bouncy again. She was fun and silly, but there was no suggestion of her being dumb. I actually thought it was refreshing to have a non-idiotic character to be given a personality like that; I find that too many TV shows (especially kids' ones) suggest that people - usually females - have to be pessimistic or grouchy in order to be of average or above average intelligence. If you're happy-go-lucky or fun, you're an idiot, basically. I remember when I first mentioned to my mum that I heard Ariana dyed her hair for the role (because Dan didn't want a cast of only brunettes) my mum said that she thought Ariana should have dyed her hair blonde instead, as it'd suit her character more. That's actually something I disagree with, again because of the overplayed stereotype there, so I'm glad that wasn't the case. Even so, they managed to make Cat overly stereotypical anyway. O.OV There was actually a small part in "Tori Fixes Beck & Jade" that concerned me. Towards the end, when Beck was beginning to realise that he didn't want to go out with someone too easily pleased, he briefly described difficult/mean girls as having "strong opinions". I know it was only part of a line, but that worried me. That reinforces the sexist idea that being female means you are not entitled to your own opinion, especially if someone male disagrees with it. Combining that with what Jade's character was like by this point in the series, and you have a real self-esteem crusher. Remember that a lot of pre-teen/teen girls watch this show! In later episodes, Jade isn't that mean to Tori anymore. I thought that originally the idea was that she saw Tori as a school rival, for paying attention to and eventually kissing her boyfriend in the pilot episode. Jade seemed to get along okay with the rest of the group. Basically, she wasn't constantly fierce to everyone, but she did have a temper. That was all. In the last few episodes, she's more vicious to Cat and Robbie. She's also been much harsher towards Beck since they got back together. None of this is really explained, but it seemed to start happening around the time Cat got dumber. I wonder if some new writers came into it part way through? Or some old ones had to leave?
