Hey! So here's the siguiente chapter. I didn't do too much editing on it...so hopefully it's okay. :) Tell me what tu think!!!!
Chapter 5 – The Boy
I awoke the siguiente morning feeling refreshed. I had a good night’s sleep, and I knew that I had slept for at least ten hours. This was not only from the exhaustion of yesterday, but I knew that it was also from the hunting trip the other night as well. It was no secret that the trip had practically drained all energy out of my body, but I didn’t want it to mostrar since it was so much fun. Also during that night no nightmare accompanied me in my sleep, which was a big relief. The nightmare that I had before was still in my head, and I knew that if another one was added to that I would go insane.
I pushed my covers from me as I sat up in my bed. I stretched and scratched my hair, feeling very relaxed. For some reason, I had it in my mind that today was going to be a great day. At first I wasn’t sure why I felt this way, but then I remembered Nahuel, and excitement rushed into me. My corazón thumped quicker just thinking about seeing his face. This emotion was strange. It was something that I had never experienced before, and now I knew that if I was missing anything in my life before, it was this feeling. It made me want to dance and sing my corazón out, but at the same time it made me afraid. Afraid of what, I wasn’t certain, but whatever it was that I was scared of I was sure that I could face it.
I rose from my cama and got ready for the day. Once I was done, I was about to take off running from the house and through the forest when I felt a hand on my arm. I whirled around and noticed that it was Edward.
“Renesmee, tu know that tu should wait for me,” he said, his tone accusing and his eyebrow raised.
“Oh! I’m sorry,” I told him. “I just want to get to the house.”
“You know that I have to take tu back. Besides, I don’t know if I want tu going out with Nahuel o not yet,” he said.
My eyes went wide, surprised. Then I recalled that he could read minds, so of course he knew my plans. I sighed.
“Dad, it’s perfectly safe. And, it’s not like we’re going to do anything bad. We just want to get to know each other better, that’s all,” I insisted.
“I know that tu wouldn’t do anything wrong, and Nahuel’s thoughts are relatively kind. To be frank, it’s just hard for me to see tu grow up so fast and then allow tu to fecha all of a sudden.”
My corazón jumped at the sound of “date”, but I understood what he was saying. I could tell that it was going to be an issue, but I decided to let that thought slide for a moment. I said, “I understand. I’ll try to make this as easy for tu as possible, okay? I amor you, dad.”
He hugged me and gave me a kiss on my head. “I amor tu too, Nessie, and I always will.”
He let me go and exhaled. It was evident he had gotten something off of his chest. “You ready?” he asked.
“You’re still going to take me back?” I questioned him, a little taken aback. Now that I grasped that he knew that I was indeed trustworthy, I would expect for him to approve of me to run to the Cullen house on my own. But, I supposed that he wouldn’t even take that simple step yet.
“Yes,” he answered my pregunta from before, his voice confident.
We began to dart into the forest together.
“Where’s mom?” I wondered aloud as we ran.
“She went to the house early today,” Edward informed me. “She went to talk with all of our family, and especially Carlisle.”
“Why?” I asked, curious.
“They’re making future plans,” he replied.
I waited for him to explain the future plans that they were making, but when I realized that he wasn’t going to tell me, I frowned. Yet again, the feeling that he’s hiding something from me had returned. I was an adult now. I deserved to know what was going on with our family.
“And, it’s not you, Renesmee,” Edward comentó on my thoughts. “We’re still unsure about everything ourselves, and when we feel the time is right we’ll tell you.”
We jumped over the river.
“I believe you,” I admitted once we were over the water, “but I just can’t help but think that it’s a little unfair, since I’m part of the family too.”
He didn’t say anything. I held back a sigh as we came closer to the house. Right before we entered through the front door, Edward muttered, “And, Nessie, I’m not the only one who isn’t sure if tu should fecha Nahuel o not.”
I looked to him, a bewildered look upon my face. Edward was one of the most overprotective people in my life. At that moment I was blanking on who he could be talking about until we entered the living room and observed that very person sitting on the sofa—Jacob. Of course it was him. Though right when I saw that Nahuel was in the room as well, my eyes locked on him. The familiar mariposas that I always had when he was around were back, and my corazón skipped a beat.
“Hey, Renesmee,” Jacob called out, a big smile on his face. He got up from the sofá and walked over to me to give me a hug. “How did tu sleep?”
“I slept well, thank you,” I answered, my eyes still on Nahuel. Jacob noticed that I was distracted, and turned his head to the direction of where my eyes were looking. Nahuel didn’t even seem to see Jacob looking, and gazed right past him to me.
“What time would tu like to go out, Renesmee?” he asked.
“Anytime is fine,” I told him, blushing. Everybody in my family was present, and each one of them was paying attention to the expression on my face.
“Is there a good restaurant in town that we can go to for breakfast?” he questioned.
“Yes. There’s this one place where we can eat inside o outside,” I answered, the rosy complexion in my cheeks still not fading.
“Wait. What are tu talking about?” Jacob demanded. He stared down at me, his face twisted with confusion. “You can’t seriously be going out with this blood sucker, Nessie.”
“Jacob, I’ll be safe,” I assured him in a gentle tone. I didn’t want for him to become angry, yet por looking at his face I knew that he was already well into that emotion. His eyes flickered with fury, and his voice came out quivery and coarse.
“You can’t really believe that tu are safe around that leech,” he spat in my face. “There is no way in hell that tu are going anywhere with him.”
“Jacob, relax,” Edward said, walking from my side to get to him. He glared up at him. “Nahuel does not mean any harm. He will protect Renesmee if anything.”
“I will.” Nahuel stepped in, his deep voice comforting. “I’ll protect her, Jacob, with all of me.”
He reached out to touch Jacob’s shoulder in a kind-hearted approach. Once his fingers met Jacob’s skin, Jacob whirled around to face him. His entire body was shaking and his breaths were heavy and rapid.
“What tu will do is stay away from her,” he growled, his tone más beast than man.
Several vampiros rushed over to where he was. They squeezed their way in between him and Nahuel, blocking them from getting to each other. Carlisle went to Jacob’s side instead, and placed a hand upon his bare shoulder, attempting to calm him down. I stared at this scene, quite horrified at what was going on.
“This is not your fight, son,” he soothed, his warm honey eyes staying put on Jacob’s face. “It’s Nessie’s choice whether she goes with him o not. And if she does decide to go with him, respect that.”
Jacob’s heavy breathing began to slow little por little. He turned around to look at me again, a gleam of hope glistening slightly in his dark eyes.
“Nessie, please tell me that tu are not going with him,” he begged of me, sounding a tiny bit on the desperate side.
I wanted to tell him that I wasn’t going with Nahuel, but I couldn’t. That would be a fib, and I didn’t want to risk Jacob finding out later that I had lied to him. So, I shook my head slowly at him, keeping my eyes locked with his.
“Jacob…” I began. “I’m sorry.”
The little hope that was in his eyes vanished, and he was back to being furious. His jaws were tight, and his body started to make violent trembles again. His siguiente few words came through his teeth.
“You’ve got to be kidding me, Renesmee!” he screamed. Emmett and Edward grabbed each of his arms and pulled him back. Together, they dragged him out of the house, Jacob cursing at them in protest on the way. I backed up slightly in shock, gawking after the three of them. I had no idea what expression was on my face, but the way Nahuel looked at me I was sure that it could not be good. His eyebrows were furrowed, and his eyes appeared to be weary.
“We don’t have to do this…” he told me, his voice trailing off.
“No,” I said. I looked to him, my corazón breaking a bit from the stare he was giving me. “No, I want to. We can take my new car.” My eyes traveled to my family. “If that’s okay with you.”
They all seemed to shrug. It was obvious that the most of them could care less.
“Do what tu want with it,” Alice told me. “It’s your car, honey.”
“Okay. And I also meant that is it okay with all of tu that I can go out right now,” I added.
“Oh.”
Carlisle said, “Well, in that case I think tu should ask your mother, Renesmee. I, personally, don’t mind if tu do o not. tu might learn a little something más about yourself por spending time with a fellow half-vampire. But, that’s my opinion.” He looked over to Bella from where he was standing. She was positioned not too far from where I was. The whole time she had kept to herself, bring nothing but silent. “Bella…” Carlisle spoke.
At first she appeared as though she were deeply pondering. But then she walked closer to me with a softer expression on her face. She looked at me right in my eyes, and I stared back at her. She gave me a little smile.
“Nessie...” she began to speak. “You know that I amor you. And, whatever makes tu happy is fine por me. Of course, some things I have to grow used to, like unfortunately tu going on dates. But, it’s nothing that time won’t wear off. So, tu can go with Nahuel if tu want, but be safe.”
I hugged her, feeling más grateful than ever. Her approval was a breath of fresh, spring air to me. It was all I needed. “Thanks, mom,” I dicho over her shoulder.
“You’re welcome, dear,” she replied.
Once we parted she continued to look at me. “Have fun with Nahuel, okay? I’ll see tu when tu get back.”
I nodded at her then walked over to Nahuel, who stared down at me with certain seriousness on his face.
“Are tu ready to go?” he asked.
“Yes, I am,” I replied, very sure of myself now. “Let’s go.”
In my new car, I drove us to the restaurant I had mentioned before. It was a pretty sunny day, which was odd for a rainy town like Forks. Therefore, we decided to eat outside. We chose a cute mesa, tabla for two and sat down. Right away a kind waitress assisted us and asked if we would like anything to drink.
“Just water is fine,” I told her.
“And you, sir?” she asked Nahuel.
“I’m not thirsty, so no thank you,” he replied, keeping his eyes on me.
“Would tu like to order your breakfast now o wait a few más minutes?” the waitress questioned us.
“We’ll wait,” Nahuel answered for the both of us.
“Alrighty then. I’ll see tu in a few with your drink,” she announced and then walked away.
At first Nahuel and I were silent. I looked at our surroundings, taking notice of the rather busy morning. Cars and trucks whizzed by, and people walked the sidewalks. A little boy and his mother were waiting at a bus stop. The little boy was playing with a ball in the meantime, bouncing it up and down, and smiling whenever the ball ended back up in his hands.
“Renesmee,” Nahuel broke my thoughts, calling my attention to him. “I remember that tu have special powers. Is that so?”
“Yes,” I said. “I can project imágenes into other people’s minds with one touch.”
“Right! I find that actually pretty fascinating. If tu don’t mind, I was wondering if tu could maybe mostrar me your power. I would like to experience how that is,” he dicho to me.
“Oh…sure!” I said, growing más nervous at his suggestion. “Um…give me your hand.”
He reached across the little, circular mesa, tabla and placed his hand near me on the flat surface. I glanced at his hand and then at him, making sure that he was ready. He locked eyes with me for a moment and nodded slightly. I took a deep breath, blinking a little fast from nerves, and then pressed my fingers gently upon his hand. I closed my eyes and pictured the time when I went hunting at midnight with my family. I made him see everything from my point of view, and also how I felt about Jacob giving up his kill for me. I brought out with my gift the feeling of gratefulness, and bliss that I had felt that night. I also displayed to him the image of me on Jacob’s back as he ran, the forest rushing por me as the wind whipped in my face. Then I took my fingers off of his hand and looked at his face. Nahuel looked at me as well. His eyes were broad and his lips were parted, obviously a little stunned at how detailed my gift was.
“That was incredible,” he breathed. “When did tu get to do that?”
“Just the other night,” I told him. “I never had a chance to hunt that late before, so I thought it would be a good idea to do so for my birthday.”
“That sounds like fun. I never actually tried hunting animales before,” he admitted, his voice a little sheepish.
I knew that I shouldn’t have felt astonished at his statement, but I couldn’t help but feel a little stunned. I knew that Nahuel was a good person, but I was taken aback por the fact that he hunted humans.
“Oh wow,” I muttered, my complete surprise reflecting in my tone.
“I know.”
I was quiet for a moment as my thoughts became organized again. “Well…” I spoke when I was pretty sure of what I was going to say. “While you’re still around y-you can try hunting with me sometime. I’m sure it’ll be fun.”
He smiled at me. “I’d amor that.”
I smiled back at him. Time always seemed to slow down whenever I stared at him.
“Here tu go.”
I jumped a little at the sound of the waitress’s voice. I was so consumed in the conversation that I hadn’t realized she was back. She was careful as she placed my glass of water por me.
“Thank you,” I said, and took a sip of the drink.
The waitress asked if we would like to order now, and I told her that we were ready. Once we all ordered what we were going to eat for breakfast, she walked away with a grin.
“Anyway,” Nahuel muttered, turning his attention back to me, “I’d amor to try the vegetarian style of the vampiros with you. It’ll be different.”
“I’m just wondering, how come tu never tried to hunt animales before instead of people?” I asked him, my curiosity slipping through. Right away I felt guilty for asking such question. Maybe he wouldn’t even have an answer. Perhaps he didn’t wish to speak about why he does what he does. I was being rude. It was not my place to ask about such a strange subject. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to pry. tu don’t have to answer that—”
“It’s okay. I don’t mind.” He paused for a moment; his facial features were earnest, seeming to be thinking hard. “No that I’m thinking back on it, I can’t recall the thought of drinking animal blood rather than my usual preference ever occurring to me. I suppose I’m being selfish. It’s hard to give up hunting humans. The taste is like no other, and it is the most delicious flavor than any comida I’ve ever tasted in my lifetime. But” — he shrugged — “perhaps it’s time for a change.”
His expression lightened up as he gave me a smile.
“Do tu really want to change your lifestyle for…?” Thought I couldn’t complete my sentence. I was too astounded to finish.
“For you?” he wondered, guessing what I was planning to say correctly. “I might. It all depends on how much I will grow to care for you. But, to try something different that might make me a better person? I will.”
I stared at him once more, and as I looked at his beautiful face I realized that I was falling for him. It was strange—I only had just met up with him again yesterday after six years. There was still so much to learn, and so much to figure out. Yet I was certain that I really was falling for him, and had no preguntas about it. As he stared back at me, I knew that the feeling was mutual.
Then, something caught my eye.
It was the little boy.
Not far from us, the boy was still bouncing the ball on the sidewalk. But when he bounced the ball this time, something went wrong, and the ball did not come up to his tiny hands. The balls bounced away from him and went out into the middle of the street. The kid’s mother did not notice, and was unaware of what her son was up to.
The boy, who seemed to not know any better, squealed in frustration and then took off running to get his ball, stepping out onto the street.
“Nahuel,” I muttered, “look at the boy over there…”
He followed my eyes and saw the child running out into the middle of the street. His eyes widened; apparent fear crossing his face.
A new thought came to my mind, and rather than my eyes being on the kid, my eyes traveled to the traffic down the calle headed toward him. Coming at fast speeds in front of all the cars was a large truck, and I knew that it would only be segundos until that little boy would be crushed.
Time seemed to slow down.
A single, breathy gasp escaped from my lips.
“No,” I breathed, standing up from the chair. “No, the boy…”
I began to run, but Nahuel was already ahead of me. He sprinted toward to boy who was now in the center of the road, coming dangerously close to vampire speed. The boy was oblivious to the truck that was coming closer to him and the Valiente half-vampire that was coming to rescue him.
Nahuel ran onto the street, almost running at the same rate as the truck. He sprinted slightly ahead of it, then swerved in front of it right before it hit the boy, whose arms were outstretched, reaching for the ball.
Time seemed to speed up as the truck rolled over the exact area Nahuel and the child were just standing on only a segundo ago. When the truck cleared out of the way, I became puzzled, and a stab of terror jabbed into my body. My eyes were broad and I gasped as my eyes stared at the street.
The child and Nahuel had disappeared.
