Charlie was downstairs now. I was sitting, legs crossed, on my bed. He had left me alone to think. I couldn’t think though. All these scenarios were running through my head. I was fighting vampiros in different ways. Hand to hand combat, weapons, my powers. All of them ended with me dead with a bite mark on my neck that was an eerie red colour. I was trying to think of ways around it but nothing worked. It seemed my life was in danger now. Maybe I shouldn’t have a vampire for a boyfriend. It really wasn’t healthy for me. What if his teeth accidentally slipped and he pierced my skin. His venom would be injected, intentionally o unintentionally, into my bloodstream. The idiotic defect that was in my blood would not let the venom travel freely but cause the venom to contaminate my defenceless red blood cells. The clueless blood cells go back to my unsuspecting corazón to get más oxygen and then BANG. My unguarded corazón turns into a crazed eating machine and attacks itself. And I am dead. Deceased. Gone. Not coming back. EVER. I was only sixteen I didn’t want to die. I was still to turn seventeen and finish high school. I may not like that damn torture chamber they call a school but I do want to find out what an American graduation is like.
But when I thought of life away from Edward, when I thought of how I would never feel his arms around me o his snowy lips on mine, his chuckle o his dazzling smile, I felt this depression well up. My corazón began to race and my breath became faster and shorter. I felt as if I was having a panic attack.
“Calm down,” I told myself. I took a few deep breaths. “You are not going to leave Edward, tu idiot. That was just a thought. tu weren’t actually going to do it. Not now that you’ve acted like this.”
I was breathing normally and felt not happy but not depressed either. I was confused now. I didn’t have a clue what to do and whenever I thought of something my mind would conjure up a negative side effect to my one segundo amazing solution.
“What are tu going to do?” I asked myself.
“Well, I can’t tell Edward, can I?” I answered myself. “He will refuse to take me anywhere near Jasper, not dare touch me in case his teeth somehow manage to bite me and probably not even look at me in case his eyes spit venom at me.”
“So, nothing yet then?”
“Nope.”
I smacked myself on the forehead. I was talking to myself.
“First sign of madness is talking to yourself.”
Edward’s velvet voice made me squeal. I turned to see him standing siguiente to my open window. He must have sneaked in when I was having my one girl conversation.
“Do tu always use the window?” I asked. “You know, I do have a door.”
“I don’t use it too often,” he said, grinning.
“Not too often?” I repeated.
“Don’t be angry,” he said, slightly defensive. “I may have, once o twice - o maybe ten, twenty times, climbed in through your window to watch tu sleep.”
“Watch me sleep?” I was nearly laughing. Was he serious? He had actually scaled my wall, climbed through my window, in the night-time, all to watch me sleep? This vampire needed a hobby.
“It’s fascinating,” he dicho in his defence. “And I do not need a hobby. I have you.”
“Well ain’t tu sweet,” I said, smiling.
I unfolded my legs and was on my knees to crawl along the cama to him but he was already in front of me and besar me.
What had happened before, my dilemma, my tragedy, was completely wiped from my mind por his kiss. But just as I had begun to enjoy it he pulled away.
“What was that for?” I murmured, trying to pull his lips back to mine.
He chuckled and stopped me.
“That is basically all tu think about,” he said. “But there’s something else on your mind.”
I was about to shout at him for invading my mind when I had not let him but he put up a hand to stop me.
“I know that tu don’t like me lectura your thoughts when they are not directed at me and I am not doing it purposely but I can feel – sense- that there is something wrong. It’s like your thoughts are having an argument and shouting at each other.”
My eyes widened. I hadn’t realised that my thoughts were so violent. How dare they shout at each other? I better have word with them.
Edward chuckled at me.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, tilting his head to the side.
I was thinking of the best way to tell him, going through all of what Charlie had dicho to me when he gasped. Yes - Edward Cullen who expects the unexpected and is never usually surprised - gasped.
“Damn,” I said. “I wanted to say it to you.”
“Kills you?” he whispered.
I nodded.
He backed away from me on his knees, putting as much distance between us as possible.
“Don’t!” I reached out for him with my hand but he jumped back against my wall.
“Don’t Edward!” I got off the cama and walked over to him. “This is what I didn’t want to happen.”
“If Jasper had bitten you,” he whispered, his eyes were not staring at me. He was envisioning something in his mind and his eyes were staring past me, watching it. “If the newborn had bitten you.”
“But they didn’t,” I said, firmly. I put my hand on his cold cheek. He eyes slid to look at it.
“Don’t worry about it. Everything will be fine. tu aren’t planning on biting me, are you?” I was trying to be funny but his eyes looked horrified.
“Joke, Edward,” I dicho hastily. I dropped my hand away from his face and turned my back to him. I knew it. He wouldn’t touch me now. He was scared that I would die. I can’t die from being hugged too much! Well, I could if he crushed me to death but he wouldn’t do that. I wouldn’t drop dead if he kissed me. Hadn’t I just proved that when he kissed me not only three minutos ago?
I felt his cold arms envolver, abrigo around me.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered in my ear. “It shocked me.”
“Shocked me too.”
“Charlie kept this from you. He shouldn’t have. He should have told tu after tu changed. tu should have known what risks tu couldn’t take. What if tu had gone chasing after newborn vampiros that were killing innocent people?” Edward shook his head.
“I know now so that doesn’t matter.” I didn’t want an argument to break out between Edward and Charlie. “What matters is what we are going to do.”
“None of my family will bite you, Kayla, even if tu wouldn’t die.”
“I didn’t mean that.” I turned in his arms to face him. “I meant about us.”
Edward’s eyebrows creased together. He didn’t understand.
“I know how overprotective tu get,” I explained. “Now that tu know about the venom and blood issue - will tu become over-overprotective? Will tu not let your teeth come with ten metres of me? Will tu refuse to even kiss me for fear that your teeth might accidentally slip and cut my lip, injecting your venom into my bloodstream?”
Edward’s golden eyes seemed to clear of any horror, surprise, shock and confusion.
“I will never stop besar you,” he dicho with a grin. “I will not become anymore overprotective than I already am and I was already making sure my teeth did not slip and bite your lips.”
“Good,” I dicho and reached up to kiss his lips. I bit his lip playfully.
“Woops,” I said. “My teeth slipped.”
“Look at me!” He screamed sarcastically. “I’m dead!”
I laughed.
“Shame on you, Kayla,” he tutted. “You killed me.”
“I prefer my men dead,” I shrugged.
He grinned and kissed me. It was no different than to any other time he had kissed me before. And like always he pulled away just as I was enjoying it.
“Stop doing that!”
He chuckled.
“I just wanted to say something.” He grinned at me. There was something funny that I wouldn’t find funny.
“What?” I said, warily.
“We’re going to play baseball tomorrow. You’re on my team.”
