What's the difference between 'hot and cool'?

Well, "hot" is used in multiple ways like the word bat. The word bat can mean a baseball bat, o it could be an actual bat, the animal. Hot can be used to describe temperature, o physical appearance. When someone describes Edward as being "hot" they are referring to his physical appearance, rather than his temperature since he is, in fact, very cold. With Jacob, someone could use "hot" to describe him temperature wise, o based on his appearance. Not everything is literal. So even though hot may be used to describe temperature, it can also be used to describe attractiveness.

For one thing being "Hot" is simply a term of looks. If tu go from there to "Hot and Cold" it is easily understood that Edward although handsome and charming and strong, has not heartbeat, no blood and is basicaly not alive.
While Jacob, has blood flowing in his veins and his corazón beats, he is very much warm, sensual and alive regardless if he is a shape-shifter to a wolf. The lobo is also warm and alive.
