I disagree with all of these comments. He admitted that the initial attraction was because she looked like Katherine, but that's not why he fell in love with her. He explained to Lexi exactly why he fell for her. And be honest, Damon wouldn't have given her a second glance either unless she looked like Katherine. So don't go pretending that he would have noticed and loved her had she not.

But without the initial attraction (meaning WHAT IF she didn't look like Katherine) would they still have fallen in love (or would have Stefan stalked her for a year if she didn't look like Katherine? I think not.) He stalked her for a year because he felt attracted to her because she looked like Katherine.......so he felt attracted to her BECAUSE she looked like Katherine and it took him a year of stalking to realize that she wasn't like Katherine at all. So you can say that he came back to Mystic Falls because she looked like Katherine and he practically butted into her life, and followed her everywhere (just stating the truth, or my viewpoint of the truth) because he was already in love with her? Sorry, not buying it. I'll admit, I can stand Stelena even though I ship Delena but when it comes to the whole Stefan/Elena/Katherine thing I still think Stefan loves her just a tiny bit because of her resembalance to Katherine.
And on the contrary, Damon would have given her a second glance whether or not she looked like Katherine because Stefan wanted her (and Damon wanted what Stefan had.)....aka at the beginning Damon was still on his hell bent quest to give Stefan an eternity of pain and sorrow blahblahblah. And plus, Damon already knew then (when he arrived at the town) that he was going to attempt to get Katherine out of the tomb so WHY would he even mess with Elena even if she looked like Katherine in the first place if Damon knew that he was going to get Katherine back?
Sorry for the long rant, and this is just my opinion.

OMG! Totally agree! Stefan wouldn't have stalked her or even had a glance at her if she didn't look like Katherine!! And with Damon.. EXACTLY! He was gonna get Katherine back anyway.. So why would he mess with Elena? Just to give Stefan misery? At the moment he DOESN'T love Elena for the resemblance to Katherine.. <33

I think he would have taken an interest in Elena even if she didn't look like Katherine. He did save her life after all :)
