Haven't read any of the books

The show is good but its nothing like the books.
The books are amazing.

I love the show

i love the show 10x better than the book. i kinda forced myself to read the books b/c i knew this tv show was comming out and the promos looked good. i thought at certain points that book was hard to keep reading.

I've got the books but i havent began reading them yet, but i'm lovin' the show.

they are completly differnt to me. i like the show as a show and i like the books (so far...) as books. if i start comparing them it really isn't fair.

I like them both. But I'm finding the show much more addictive, and the characters more likable than the books. It's like reading the books once was good but I can watch the show episodes over and over again. :P

I absolutely love the show but it is nothing like the books. The books are unique and awesome.

personally i think the books are a better story altogether . anyone who really wants to appreciate the plot and everything about the show should read them. it's kind of like a book that you love turning into a movie that hardly follows the story line. but, maybe they're just beefing it up a bit so that it can last longer. even though i don't think that it needs it.

Really I can't compare them and I've only read the first book, but I think I prefer the characters in the books.

this show is the first exception to " the books are always better" I read the books before the television show started and i deffenitly think the show :)

The show is much better. The characters have more depth and the show has a lot more depth in general. I have had to force myself to read most of the books. Elena is kind of selfish and annoying and no one ever says the word vampire. At least on the show she kind of freaked out a bit. It is more relatable in that sense. I have found the books quite similar to Twilight and i'm not a Twilight fan. Damon is mean in the books and the Salvatore brothers really hate each other. At least in the show they have the "blood is thicker than water" theme which i enjoy and admire. Maybe it takes a lot more to get into the books. I have read the first one and have just started the second one... so we will have to wait and see. But as of now the show is a lot, i don't know if better is the right word, but different.It has more of a depth and mystery that makes it more enjoyable to watch...

It's hard to say. The books and show are such different things! The main story is the same but instead of having Meredith as a young student, they have her as a doctor! Elena has a brother instead of a sister! What a mess!! Its like comparing peanut butter with Nutella... completely different.

More people like the show than they do the books. I've never read them, but alot of people say the books suck... literally ;) haha! Vampire joke!

I've read the books and they aren't half as good as the show.
