I think this quote pretty much outlines how Stefan wants to keep Elena locked away from the realities of life, not being able to make her own decisions and therefore feeling suficated. Elena loves Stefan, but Damon is the one that breaks Stefan's hold on her and allows to make her own choices and own mistakes. We learn as people por making our own choices and mistakes, if we were all rapped up in cotton wool like Stefan does with Elena, we would go out in the world always depending on people and therefore making ourselves vulnerable. Damon allows Elena to break away from this vulnerability and makes her become her own person.
She could not mover o look away. And this time she knew that it was no Power that he was using, but simply the wildfire attraction between them. It was useless to deny it; her body responded to his. She could feel his breath on her lips.
The attraction between them is obvious. I think that lectura between the lines is important when lectura and watching storylines with a amor triangle. In this case, the quote doesn't exactly point out amor in their direction, but shows that an attraction has been built between them that is useless to deny.

Damon: “I thought you’d be más interested in how. I got invited in for coffee this morning after scraping up an acquaintance last week.”
Elena: “But why?”
Damon: “For my own purposes.”
Elena: “I don’t think so. I don’t think that’s the reason at all.”

Don't tu just amor the fact that Damon and Elena are always helping each other to do things? Elena is the one that brings out his humanity, the tenderless we rarely saw at the beginning of the book series. She is the one that has always broke away his humanity so that he started wanting to help her friends, like Bonnie and Matt. Damon is always pushing Elena to do things she's afraid of and in turn she does the same; this quote probably isn't that important, but when we look at it closely, we can see that Elena wants to push Damon; not in a bad sense, but she wants to break away this invisable force that stops anyone from getting too close to him. If Stefan o Bonnie had been the one that Damon had dicho "Don't push me" to, I can guarntee they would have left it. Elena does push it however, because her and Damon are very similar, therefore it's almost like they can read each other and know what the other person is about.

[i]My favourite Damon and Elena quote in the books. Stefan and Elena are constantly referred to as "soul mates" in the libros but it's like people failed to see this quote. I have read countless LJ Smith interviews in which she has stated that she believes tu can have más than one soulmate in a life time and soul mates don't always last forever. Therefore, having read this from the autor of this series, I would to say to everyone when they say Stefan and Elena are soulmates, that yes they may be, but that doesn't mean they will last forever o be end game. They might be, but making things up, particularly when they autor is the one that most DE fans get their sources from, is just ridiculous. I also think this quote in significant in mostrando that Damon obviously has feelings for Elena. I mean, who refers to someone as their "eternal soul mate" if they aren't? So guys, Stefan and Elena are soulmates, temporary, whereas Damon and Elena are eternal soulmates which is permanant.
