Chapter Seven
Ash:

“How do I look?” I whispered to Corey.
“Hot,” he answered. I sighed deeply. Most guys in the circulo, círculo still had their eyes on me.
“Would it be better if we went back to being calle kids?”
Corey snorted. “I’d rather have all the guys in town follow tu like lost cachorritos than go back to getting no respect.”
“To bad our alias is that you’re my brother,” I mumbled. He seemed pleased at this remark. But then he groaned, and I saw why. One of...

Chapter Six
Ash:

It didn’t feel like we were running away from inicial to save my sister from dying for me. No, it definitely did not feel like that. Since Corey and I were still in familiar woods- woods I had walked through for fun almost every día of my life- if just felt like another afternoon, another walk, another person.
But it wasn’t. I kept that in mind as I easily walked down the path that years of travel had made. Corey was silent por my side. He grabbed some blueberries off a nearby bush.
    “When do tu think it...

Chapter Five
Ash:

While I was mixing my Tincture- to my surprise, Poppa had all the ingredients needed- I got a horrible feeling. It was like I had swallowed two small animales and they were fighting in my stomach- fighting to be the first to come back up.
“Poppa!” I finally managed to call. Poppa, who had only been in the other room, ran in.
“What? Is something wrong?” his head swung side to side, searching for an intruder.
“Yes! Something is terribly wrong! Poppa! We need to find Anna! Now!”...

Chapter Four
Ash:
The smell hit me as soon as I walked into the kitchen.
    Beets.
The beets themselves weren’t that bad- in fact, the red vegetable was one of my favorites. But the way Momma cooked them made sure there was lots of red juice. She’ll drain the juice, taking care not to stain her delantal with it. The jugo, jugo de would soon be used to dye cloth.
Cloth came in bleak colors- white, brown, and milky yellow. To get vibrant colors, tu had to dye the cloth, o use a Cloth Color Change Spell. The Spells...

Chapter Three
Ash:

When I walked into the kitchen, the mesa, tabla was already set. Everyone was sitting around it, saying grace. I gently put my libros on the floor, and bowed my head in prayer.
Poppa finished the prayer, and I picked up my books, putting them on the counter, before joining my family at the table.
“Why the early dinner?” I asked.
“You were late,” Momma answered. I pulled my timepiece out of my pocket, and looked at it. It was exactly the...

Chapter Two
Ash:

“I saw tu at the well yesterday,” Allie comentó as we walked to school.  I wasn’t surprised.  Most people used the well- which was in the center of Town Square- to get water.  Running water was expensive.  Most people- like my family- only used it for toilets and four hours of hot water for your shower.  And, o so it was said, if tu wait at Town Square long enough, everyone would walk through the square plaza.  I went for water every Wednesday and Saturday- Momma, Halo, and I switched off every day, and Momma took the three days.
