The author has already written four books in the Maze Runner series — The Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials, The Death Cure and prequel The Kill Order — and now he\'s adding a fifth. Dashner is penning The Fever Code, another prequel hitting bookshelves in 2016 from Delacorte Press.

The new prequel follows Maze Runner characters before they were sent to the maze.
"From the very beginning, I\'ve always wanted to write a prequel about Thomas, Teresa, Newt, Minho, Alby and all the Gladers that leads up to the very moment Thomas enters the Box," Dashner said in a news release. "There are so many things hinted at that will be fun to reveal in depth. For years, fans have made it abundantly and enthusiastically clear that they want the same thing, so now seems like the perfect time to give readers the story of how the Maze began."

The news of the book comes after the movie adaptation of
The Maze Runner topped the box office in its opening weekend with $32.5 million. A sequel, The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, hits theaters in September 2015. Sales of the first Maze novel have exploded in recent weeks, moving up to No. 3 on USA TODAY\'s Best-Selling Books list on Thursday, its highest rank yet.
