Whenever I think of Peeta, I think of pita bread! And he's even a baker, too!! :) So maybe a name that doesn't have me saying "(bread)" every time I hear it would've been better...Peeta (bread) Peeta (bread) Peeta (bread) Peeta (bread)....you can see that it gets kind of annoying after a while....and makes it a bit hard for me to take him seriously, too...

It's a hideous name. Weird names are usually cool, but seriously, Suzanne Collins, what were you thinking? I always think of this really weird guy named "Peter" at my school because people say his name like that. Gross!
P.S. Everyone... it's called "Pita" bread, not "Peeta" bread!
...but I get the connection.

It's an interesting name. Although, I have to admit, the first time one of my friends said his name when talking about the book (before I read it myself) I thought she said "Peter" not "Peeta". I like "Peeta" though because it's unique.

You see in greek the 'peeta' is exactly how the word for 'pie' is spelled and even though I read it in english when i saw the greek translation it was also spelled the same in greek but with a capital P so I kept laughing when reading...

Hey I was going to say the same thing! You see, I'm from Greece and when I heard his name for the first time I was like "What? Who thought of this guy's name?" I mean, it's like saying "Hey! That's Pie Mellark!" Come on... Anyway, fake_alibi13 are you from Greece? Because I'm currently reading the first book of the series in English and I would like to ask you if you can tell me where did you get the Greek version...Maybe at the Hob?? No... Well please tell me! :)

The only thing that bugs me is the 'pee' part of the name. I think it would have been better if his name was spelled like the bread itself.

I wish she could think of different names like katniss and gale and prim and rue ... are unique but peeta makes me think of one of my other fav series chronicles of narnia like seriously there are thousands of names and she chooses that!!! and the spelling annoys me its a bit too creative!!!

When I first saw The Hunger Games film, I thought his name was Peter. And it confused me - I was wondering why he had such a normal name when I'd never heard of the name Katniss before.

Also, the bread is pita, not Peeta. Different.

wardlj picked Yes! (sorry about the blurry picture):
Passing over the bad bread pun, I still think it was a great idea for Suzanne Collins to name him something like that. It sounds like Peter, which is a little more familiar to the reader, but the name is just unique enough to set him apart from the rest and set the series apart from other ones. If you hear the name Peeta or especially Katniss, you know you’re talking about the Hunger Games.
