The whole "Team" thing originated years hace with the infamous "Team Aniston vs. Team Jolie" incident way back when Brad was still married to Jennifer.

Why does everything end up associated with freaking Twilight? Anyway, like SwarlsBarkley said, the whole Team thing is prior to Twilight.

Because Stephenie Meyer read and recommended the series, Twilight fans came along and used "Team" just as they did for Jacob and Edward.

It's just a natural thing. Choosing your team doesn't really have anything to do with Twilight. It's just if tu like Gale more, tu support Gale. And if tu like Peeta more, tu support Peeta. So tu just say "Team _____" to let everyone know who you're rooting for. :) Saying Team ____ didn't originate with Twilight.
