I don' t think Melanie is a strong character really she is too swooned over Jared and dependant him on to protect her and her brother to have a real personality but that is JMO

i think Wanda because even though everyone hates her at first, she still refuses to let anyone hurt Jamie, and she still gives her comfort to people who had wanted her dead. could anyone do the same?

and Mel and Wanda. But i think Katniss had to deal with the cruelty of a really scary world, so i picked Katniss. Bella is strong but in a different way...as for Elena...i don't know. She doesn't seem to be strong.

TangoThang THANK YOU! Everyone is always going on about what a strong character Melanie is, but her love for Jared makes her absolutely idiotic! She started out strong, but she ended up by turning into a lovestruck teenybopper. It's actually pretty disgusting.
Wanderer I find very strong, maybe not physically, but she is brave and selfless, which is its own kind of strength.
Katniss is also strong and tough, Elena is emotionally, if not physically, strong (although her sire bond/love for Damon is rapidly turning her into a dumb little girl, a la Melanie). Bella is probably the weakest female character I've ever read.
