That week, the boys went on a raid.
I wanted to go, just to feel like old times, but they told me I couldn't, that it was too dangerous. Which really pissed me off. At first, I figured it was just because it was "too dangerous", but later, I found out that it was because I wasn't trusted, yet. I couldn't blame them much, either. Even though I was one of their own, they didn't want me giving them away. They thought I was an amateur, like I had never done this before in my life.
Back at the tunnels, Sunny continued to follow me. It was annoying, it was because Kyle wasn't there. One time, I told her to get lost and she burst into tears, only making me feel guilty for doing so. I ended up rocking her to sleep, then sharing a room with her. In fact, I had to leave my room with Lily to stay with the Soul. She begged me.
For the siguiente two weeks, I comforted Sunny and did my chores. Nothing exciting happened. I played soccer with Jamie and Lily. Even though Lily wasn't too into it, something about Wes that I had yet to learn, me and Jamie talked forever. He explained to me what happened between Melanie and Wanda, why they where so close. I thought it was pretty cool, everything that happened. It gave me a reason to trust Wanda more.
The siguiente night, I was rolling dough, covered up to my elbows in it. Flour covered my red sundress. I didn't want to wear it, but Sunny thought it looked "pretty" on me, it was one of my gifts that they gave me for my birthday. In fact, everyone twirled with me today. I hated it so much, but I didn't say anything. I had dicho stuff in the past, which only gave them más of an excuse to dress me up. I figured if I just kept my mouth shut, they would let me be. No one was going to see me like this, anyways. What was the point of it?
They had tied my hair up in a nice bun, but I took it out and tied it into a messy bun. Trudy noticed it right away, she wasn't too happy about it. They tried to talk me out of doing the rolls, but I wanted to. I had no shoes on, revealing my big feet. The dress showed most of my legs, it stopped about four inches about my knees. I couldn't wait to tear it to shreds, in fact, I was purposely getting flour and dough all over it.
"Shay! You're going to stain it!" Sharon came up behind me, pointing towards my dress. I glanced down at it, then shrugged.
"I wouldn't be wearing it if I had a choice." I grumbled, wiping my hands on my dress. She could tell I was doing it intentionally though, so she rolled her eyes with a chuckle.
Just then, Jamie came back, running with his arms up in the air. "They're back!"
Crap.
Everyone dropped what they where doing, including me. I quickly wiped my arms off, then ran towards Jamie. We were all jogging once we made it to the storage area.
I could see a group of men, I didn't notice Sunny behind us, who ran straight to Kyle. Again. She jumped into his arms, and wept. Even though she was covered head to toe in sand, like Kyle, she didn't care. Finally, I didn't have to share a room with her anymore.
I counted everyone, everyone was here... plus one. I raised an eyebrow, that was filled with flour. Someone was slung over Kyle's shoulder, which was odd.
I could hear someone chuckling, I turned to look at Brandt in the eyes.
"Nice look Shay," he dicho with a chuckle.
I put my hands on my hips, leaning to my left. "Doesn't it work for me?" I joked, sarcasm dripping in my voice.
Ian just noticed what I was wearing, he began to laugh. I rolled my eyes, then shot a grimace at Sharon and Trudy, who just gave me a thumbs up.
"Kyle, what are tu holding?" Jamie asked innocently, standing in between Wanda and Melanie.
It was a soul. Some soul that they had just kidnapped. What did they do that for? Wasn't Lacey and dulces like that? They had souls in them; now they were humans. Jamie told me that they tried that with Sunny but Jodi, Kyle's love, never responded. What where they going to do with it?
