Why did makoto's past change when she was about to get hit por a train?

Makoto's breaks failed on her bike and she ran into a mother and her child and they fell but when she came infront of a train her past changed and she had fallen with them...And she didn't even leap she had hit the boundary

It doesn't matter how tu leap tu just have to be in air to time travel(as done in the movie) I don't think she really had a past change i think when she time traveled back then she lost her balance (because she had done it the first time) she always lost balance when she time traveled so she fell on the lady and her child
