She has Meniere's Disease. It's an inner ear disorder. She isn't deaf. But some days she can't hear at all. and the way that she talks in the show is not how she talks for real. She talks completely normal in real life. She got the disease when she was 20. So she already knew how to talk. Although the disease is severe and very serious. My father has the same disease. It's a very big deal and very painful.

Actually she's Hard of Hearing in real life. The hearing ads she has are in fact her own. There are some times when she can barely hear a thing so it's pretty close.
