Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Q:The X-Men fandom preaches about Storm but when the Apocalypse trailer came out, there are crickets in the background...
Have you gone into the Ororo Munroe tag? There are quite a few people who are excited for her, more so now that she has a Mohawk. So I have no idea what you’re talking about.
Now far be it from me to speak on behalf on an entire fandom, but here’s why you haven’t seen much hype from ME:
Hollywood has a habit of casting Black actresses of mixed backgrounds as characters who are canonically Black. That’s why Zoe Saldana was cast as Nina Simone in that (now defunct) biopic about her and that’s why Alexandra Shipp is taking flight as Storm. NOW, that’s not to discredit people of mixed heritage, nor devalue the worth of anyone of multiple backgrounds, but what kind of message does it send when Hollywood won’t even consider “non-mixed” (for lack of a better term) Black actresses?
Don’t forget, it was both Shipp and Zendaya (another Black actress of mixed heritage) that were considered the front runners for the role of Ororo in Apocalypse.
Colorism. Again, white Hollywood has preference for light-skinned actors and actresses of color to portray their characters on the big screen (thanks Eurocentricism!). There was absolutely no reason not to have a dark-skinned actress play Storm.

already had to sit through points 1 and 2 with the original X-Men trilogy. Now could you imagine the annoyance of so many fans that, fifteen years after the first X-Men film aired, that we have to sit through it again?
FOX’S X-MEN FILMS DO JACK SHIT FOR ITS CHARACTERS OF COLOR, ESPECIALLY ITS BLACK CHARACTERS.Not counting the spin-off
Wolverine films, let’s look at the track record.
Storm, damn near stripped away of any agency and power levels reduced dramatically. Had no leadership position whatsoever.
X-Men: First Class: Darwin, killed (who really shouldn’t have been, since his powers are BASICALLY TO SURVIVE ANYTHING); Angel, the only other Black character in this film changes alliances to join the Brotherhood (later revealed in “X-Men: Days of Future Past” that she was experimented on and killed).
X-Men: Days of Future Past: Storm; made it to the future (but not without being killed at least once) and fricken Wolverine couldn’t even remember her real name; Bishop, killed twice, presence in future unknown.
Also, out of its staple characters (Scott, Logan, Jean, and Ororo), Storm had the
least amount of screen time for a good majority of the films
You know, for a superhero team that serves as an allegory for struggling minority groups (more so for Black lives in America, as the X-Men mythos was partly inspired by/has parallels to the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960′s and even today), there sure are a LOT of white people being pushed to the forefront of these films.
NOW, I have no doubt that Ms. Shipp will deliver a great performance as Storm, and that a great deal of Storm’s shitty-ass portrayal in past films is partly due to writing. But forgive me for being wary and exhausted with how Fox and Bryan Singer has handled her character in the past.
Will I watch this film? Probably. And you know what? I’m probably gonna watch it to see how they do Storm. But that’s not to say that anyone who boycotts this film (
