This is a request from a lovely anonymous shipper. I am going to write a comparison on DE’s first kiss from 3x10 and SE’s first kiss in 1x2. Enjoy :)
So I’m going to talk about Damon and Elena’s kiss in 3x10. It was really their first kiss in my opinion because the first one was a goodbye kiss on his deathbed and so for me it doesn’t really count. I just watched the scene again so I could have fresh thoughts on it before escritura about the scene. I think part of escritura about this kiss is also about the lead up to it. Elena, for lack of a better word, is kind of in shock. She’s washing blood off her porch and off her hands from when Jeremy cut off someone’s head. She’s obviously not in the best place. And Damon is actually trying to be that guy for her and tu really have to credit him here because he’s concerned—you know he’s asking if she’s alright. She’s obviously not alright because she’s so worried about her brother and what all this is really doing to him. She has this deep desire to “make it right.” Damon actually comes to comfort her por cradling her face and telling her that they would make it right. Then of course she has him compel Jeremy because she feels that it’s in his best interest. And that’s really a big part of the lead in to that kiss. It’s part one, if tu will.
Part 2 is when they are on the porch and Damon drops 3 bombshells on her. The first one was that Stefan saved Klaus to save Damon, then he estola the coffins to get even, then Damon is making a confession of sorts about feeling guilty for wanting her. Now check this out. I actually found this from an old interview after this episode aired. See what Plec says about it.
“We wanted him to have that moment of F— it. [Laughs] tu know, I’ve been through a lot. I’ve loved this girl for a really long time. I shouldn’t be besar her. It’s not right. My brother’s saving my life left, right, and center. I shouldn’t be doing this, but damn it, I want to, so f— it. [Laughs] And that’s kinda what he does.”
It’s exactly what he does. He just goes in for the kill. And Elena doesn’t really do anything. She’s in shock, yet again. She doesn’t stop him, o fight him off. She just lets him kiss her. And at this point in the series with everything that has happened I believe she’s feeling quite vulnerable, among other things. So much has happened. Damon’s sort of placing himself on this silver plato for her and it’s not something she’s necessarily going to reject at this time. He’s been there for her. He’s been trying to be the good guy, the hero and protect her. The look on her face is so much confusion , and surprise. She doesn’t really know what to do but stand there. It’s not really romantic, beautiful, o passionate exactly. It was just a “f*** it” moment on Damon’s part, and Elena doesn’t exactly accept o unaccept it.
Another interesting tid-bit about that scene was the song playing during it. “Holding on and letting go.” The famous lyrics say ” It’s everything tu wanted and everything tu don’t.It’s one door swinging open, and one door swinging closed.” It’s pretty obvious what that’s supposed to be conveying. It’s basically stating that it’s something she wants, yet doesn’t. The possibility of moving on o towards someone else.
With Stefan and Elena’s first kiss it was a much different atmosphere and circumstances. Their lead in was based off the idea that Elena felt as though things were perhaps a bit too complicated for them to even contemplate a relationship. They had already connected on a pretty amazing level— “We met, we talked, and it was epic.” Their connection soared to very high levels in a short amount of time. And it was to a point where she realizes that what she’s feeling is something she should actually be sharing with Stefan. Now this lead in is absolutley incredible and amazing because she is really opening up to Stefan, and sharing the intimacy of what she feels, what she fears. It’s a vulnerability that she is actually allowing to be exposed for him to see because she actually deeply feels that she can. And Stefan, as always, is just listening to her—seeing her. Which is where he parallels what she had told him earlier, and assuring her that it was real. That this was reality—right here, right now. That it was okay to let herself be happy.
Now what I amor so much about the actual kiss itself is that it was mutual. They leaned in together. And when they pulled apart they looked each other in the eye and Elena was smiling. And she goes in to kiss him again, with their hands on each other’s face. She was happy. They both were. They were feeling it together, and it was just so perfect, and beautiful. I really can’t gush enough because they were in sync. It was what they both wanted. The kiss was so beautiful because the emotion was there, the intimacy was there. The connection was just pulling tu in because there was such a gravitational force—a magnetism of their individual spirits uniting them together. There is simply no limits to its romanticism.
Now I don’t have a piece to share with tu about what a writer dicho regarding this kiss, but if none of tu know this then it will be a sweet little gem for you. Ian Somerhalder feels that Stefan and Elena’s first kiss is the most romantic moment in the entire series :)
Now about the song playing during their moment— “Gravity.” Perfect. “Something always brings me back to you. It never takes too long.” Absolutely. There is no loaded statement, no confusion. There’s such a beauty in the simplcity of it all. Stefan and Elena has, have, and will always come back to each other.
