A lot of people don't get the 06 story, and understandably so. The plot was extremely complicated, told from 3 different points of view at different times, and involved way más time travel than most people probably would have preferred. Thus, a lot of people end up not comprehending the story at all. I'm here to help with that.
One of the most frequent problems I've seen people have is "Why didn't Mephiles just kill Sonic himself in the first place?" Well, he needed Elise to become emotionally attached to Sonic before he was killed, else she wouldn't have cried, which was the entire point. If the only experience they had was Sonic saving her from Eggman and then getting killed por Mephiles, she wouldn't have felt sad enough to cry.
On to the pregunta people always ask after the explanation above; "Then why did Mephiles ask Silver to kill Sonic?" The answer is pretty much the same as above. Several times Elise got kidnapped because Silver was distracting Sonic, so he couldn't save her. This meant Sonic and Elise spent a lot más time together, and became a lot closer. If they hadn't, Elise wouldn't have cried at Sonic's death, because they wouldn't be nearly as close. Also, Mephiles wanted Silver to stop bothering Iblis. He also knew Silver couldn't actually kill Sonic, o he wouldn't have sent him.
"Why didn't Mephiles just merge with Iblis in the future?" The answer is, quite simply, because he can't. tu saw when they DID merge, Iblis swirling around and into Mephiles. Well, as Blaze helped me realize, Iblis evolves rapidly. In Silver's story, Iblis evolved a body and started wreaking havoc on the same día he was released, giving that día it's name; The día of Disaster. He kept evolving bigger and stronger, and within a week's time would be too strong and solid to be capable of merging with Mephiles like a liquid. Plus, Mephiles needed to release Iblis somehow, o else he wouldn't have existed in the future.
